New to retro ring shopping. Help!

Hello!
I have a new love for retro rings. I found an e-ring that I fell in love with. It is a transitional cut, they say, but the symmetry is fair and the price is quite high. The GIA report lists it as a round brilliant (as ive been reading I heard this is an ongoing issue) I was hoping to get some insight as to older diamonds and how much symmetry matters. I was assuming since cut band hand there would Be more flaws.

Speaking for myself, when looking at antique cuts the report is useful but my eye even more so. Transitionals are on the later end and I do expect them to be more symmetrical than most OMC’s, for example. They are closer to a modern cut so to me they should reflect that in symmetry. For OMC’s and OEC’s I have a much wider tolerance for asymmetry, depending on the project.
But if you like it then maybe the symmetry isn’t as big a deal to you...only you can answer that.

The ring is 13,900, I believe 1.82 total cts including the french cuts on the band

That’s a beautiful ring! I only like old cuts and trust my eye than what the paper says, I agree with 1ofakind. The price seems high to me, Hopefully others will weigh in. It very pretty thou

It’s a good size diamond and French cut diamonds are hard and expensive to find but that’s too many $$$$.
Say $3K (generous cos they are French cuts) for the setting and $7k for the diamond, that’s only $10k.
Have a look at Ivy & Rose loose diamonds.
They have a 3 carat transitional cut for $13,000 so that’s like twice the size.
In OMC they have a 2.5 carat (lower colour) for $8.3K , a 1.82 carat for $6.6K and a most similar I colour VS2 at 1.44 carats for $6.1k.
Ivy & Rose make beautiful reproduction style setting and also make to order. So don’t go rushing in until you’ve had a good look around at all the options out there!
