I will be purchasing a diamond and engagement ring using PS and I am very excited. With all the great information here, I feel empowered to make a good purchase. For the benefit of new users and first time diamond buyers like myself, I'll post periodically to update on the process. I hope I can do my part to contribute to this great site. Here is my initial gameplan (subject to change!):

1.Read Fred Cuellar’s Book, “How to Buy a Diamond”

2.Using PS search, PS vendor information, and PS user testimonials, down select to a few round diamonds, focusing on

·Premium or ideal cuts, Color E to G, matched to clarity rating

·2008 GIA or AGS certifications

·Round smaller cuts 0.65 to 0.90 carat

·Good value pricewise

·Vendors with good return policy pending independent appraisal

·Vendor's Excellent warranty

3.Down select using the Holloway Cut Adviser

4.Buy it, inspect it and have it independently appraised through a PS appraiser

5.Work with the vendor to select a beautiful setting for it

Input & Suggestions for this newbie are appreciated!

Hi gerpena - I think you can safely skip step 1. and just do your diamond education here on Pricescope. The rest of your plan sounds great.

Welcome to PS, and feel free to ask plenty of questions as you begin to narrow down your diamond choices.

I am seriously considering the following diamond, which has a characteristic I did not initially want: lower color rating J (I wanted G or better) and strong blue fluorescence. However, after research here on PS I am now open to it, though admittedly still hesitant.Would love to get some feedback.

SHAPE Round
0.9 Ct., COLOR J, VS1, CUT GRADE 0 - Ideal
MEASUREMENTS 6.24 - 6.28 x 3.83 mm
FLUORESCENCE Strong Blue
TABLE SIZE 56.6 %
TOTAL DEPTH 61.2 %
PAVILION ANGLE 40.8 °
CROWN ANGLE 34.2 °
AGS REPORT

This would go on a solitare setting. Any advice?
