Hi all,

I have been browsing ebay for rings with colored stones. What do you think about this one? I have no idea about what a "good" price is...but I love this cut and the setting:

People have complained that the LOGR colored gems, in particular the aquas, are not as dark as depicted in the listings. I recommend purchasing an aquamarine that you like in the exact color that you like, and then get an LOGR for it. Make sure it''s a size that fits one of the existing LOGR settings though.

That aqua is way too light for my taste. Very light aqua, IMO, is like cut glass in a ring. That''s why I recommend buying an aqua separately, and looking for one with the color you want. I''m really picky when it comes to aquas though. Perhaps the light color wouldn''t bother you.

The first one seems better in color intensity, the second one in color coverage. Both are important factors, especially in cases of fine clarity and a solid cut (like with these stones). Of course color intensity is more important so the first one wins, but I have a feeling it''s not as intense as in the photo or it has some serious color coverage issues. The color of the second one seems too light and has a grey tint (it should be more of a clean blue). I suggest you google out something like "aquamarine buying guide", I''m sure you''ll find a lot of sites like that for educational purposes.

Can I just add that I have bought from Sanpo on Ebay - had some absolutely phenomenal deals (and I mean phenomenal). Sema who runs the Ebay shop is brilliant and will give honest opinions. I bought a 1.01ct oval diamond ring (the one in my avatar) and it''s been valued at 5 times what I paid (by a reputable valuer). I''ve also bought a Tahitian pearl and diamond pendant that literally blew me away when it arrived.

I do agree that the Aqua looks too pale but it would be worth contacting Sema and asking the question as it looks like a stock photo. By the way, he will also take extra photos for you.

Thanks for the info! He does have some nice stuff in his store. What about these?

I like the cut on this one, and love the split shank:

The amethyst is too grey and too light for my taste

Blue topaz is irradiated to get that color.

The pink topaz has a coating to make it that color. The coating can wear away or get scratched off.
