John has a few new stones posted. Very pretty! I really liked the color of one of the sapphires!

Hmmm most of the new stuff is out of my price range. Or maybe I''m just not seriously tempted. I do like some of his older stones.

How close are his photos to what you see when you get a stone from him? Yes, I''ll go check out the photo thread, but I thought I''d ask for opinions too.

i think his photos are close [the new ones, with the white backgrounds]. he changed his photo style, so anything with a black background is old and might not be as accurate as the new ones...if you email him, he''ll take a new picture for you.

i got a garnet from him, and it was very close!

The sapphires are a bit dark for my tastes. I am much more drawn to those bright spess garnets

i have 2 rounds [spinel and tourmaline] from barry, and a round rhodolite garnet from john. i think they are similar. both are super sparkly. john cuts really well.

john has an 8mm malaya...did you see it? very pretty.

Thanks Karee. I was hoping for around 9x7 in a deeper colored stone (red, green, blue) or maybe an Alexandrite but I can''t afford that.

i forgot that i had a second photo shoot. there are a few other stones...a mint tourmaline from dan and a minty blue tourmaline from barry. the dan and john garnets are also included...

I have one stone from John and I love it! It is the garnet in my avatar

I also have a stone from Barry that I love too. Kinda hard to compare as one is an asscher and the other a round.

Cool thread. I just love your photos. Soon I will have a stone from Dan Stair to compare to my Barry stone. Your photos are so much better than mine, I need to read up on taking photos of gems, and practice.
