new stone old setting

A setting I have right now is designed for a 9.5x7.5 stone. I would like to put a colored stone in its place and I am finding I can purchase either a 10x8 or a 9x7 stone - which do you think would be better for my setting?

Is it a prong set setting? I tend to go bigger (ie 10 x 7) because I hate the basket showing when the stone is too small.

it''s the setting my diamond is currently in... I am very attached to the setting but I don''t like my diamond in it - I want to buy an emerald for it and I think it''s going to look fantastic. My diamond is 9.5 x 7.5 and it''s not really a basket or a typical prong... hmmm... one of the things I don''t like about it with my diamond is that there''s not enough breathing room around the stone.
