penskip. . . GIRL! ! ! I'm all about the solitaire. But if you feel like you would rather have the half moons, then go for it. It's your engagement ring and YOU are the one that has to be happy with it. . . Oh yea, there is also your Hubby . . .
It's totally gorgeous though. I'm with slg47, is your stone an antique? It's facets are so chunky!
It is an antique. I love the facets too! It's so colorful and sparklie, it even throws off flashes in a poorly lit room. I think I was thinking of the half moon side stones being a little shorter in height than the center stone (unlike the example linked above). I think I am trying to think of way to maybe make it look a little bigger without doing a halo.
Well I am biased since I love halfmoons... but I really do think they would look fabulous with your diamond. I think you are on the right track with going for ones that are "shorter" than your center stone to really accent it.
I've seen cushions around your shape with halfmoons, and they look beautiful! I think it depends on what look you love more -- solitaire or with side stones.
I think half moon sides will look lovely. I agree with others, I think smaller accent sides will be perfect, as to not take away from your beautiful center stone.
