I posted a thread earlier seeking advice on 1.51 F SI1 Princess stone. I just had a Sarin report done. I wanted to show you all the numbers and see what you think.

Also, the Sarin calculation of the stone''s dimensions are off alittle bit from the GIA. There are also some other inconsistencies. What does this mean? What do you think of these Sarin numbers?

Here are the stats from the Sarin. Please tell me what you think. I am trying to make a decision on this stone today or tomorrow. I seek help and advice here as always.

1.51 F
SI1 (with eye visible feather on the length side that looks like a white flake)
6.30x6.34x4.63 (GIA cert says 6.36x6.33.4.63)
Crown Height 10.1%
Pavilion angle 61%
Pavillion depth 61%
Table 68.4% (GIA says 67%)
Total Depth 73.3% (GIA says 73.1%)
Crown Angle 36.7%
Girdle TN-MED, VG/VG, NO FL. (from GIA cert.)

Thanks in advance!

Hi SRH,

Inquire whether the Sarin also has a 3d model incorporated in it. An educated gemologist can give you much better input if you have a model which would be included in the .srn file generated from the Sarin machine. The preliminary numbers from the Sarin appear ok but I would not draw solid conclusions from these numbers personally. I''d want/prefer further testing with either LightScope/IdealScope and/or BrillianceScope for confirmation before plunking down the $$$. RockDoc is one appraiser who does have these tools and Dave Atlas also incorporates light measuring technologies into his analysis as well as Rich Sherwood and Neil Beatty. All of whom can be found on this forum. If the stone interests you that much you should consider sending it to one of these labs for further analysis.

Regards,

1% table size variation is not uncommon - probably GIA''s scanner is better maintained.

But the girdle does model out to be too thin for my liking.
Otherwise it could well be one of the best looking Princesses around.

Gary, you''re awesome!! Thanks for running the computer model. Is that picture you attached really from the model you generated on your computer just by plugging in the numbers. Pretty cool.

I asked my jeweler today about the Thin girdle, especially on the points. He said it looked okay in his opinion and that all the facets came together evenly at one point, which he said addto the point''s overall durability. He also said that he wanted to "burn" or "buff" the edges using a diamond sander, before he set the stone. He said this was completely safe and that it would help prevent the points from chipping once in the setting and getting banged aroung by my girl.

Have you heard of this? Is this a common technique in setting princess cuts? Does what my Jeweler said alleviate your fears over the girdle at all?

Thanks to you as well Rhino for your input. I''m going to ask around to see if anyone has one of those hand held Ideal Scopes I can use to view the stone. Although, from Gary''s model/picture, it looks pretty good I think.

Sorry, I misspelled you name GARRY.

No prob SRH. Had I been responding from a computer that had DiamCalc I''d have been able to give you a better idea. Garry did a good job of putting the numbers to a graphic which confirmed my suspicions ... its worth further investigating.

it seems your jeweler knows what he is doing.
I would not be happy if the stone weighed 1.499ct, but at 1.51ct that is fine.

Thanks again guys. I might be able to get some sleep tonight.

Rhino, any chance you could run the numbers through DiamCalc?? Or, is that what Garry already did for me? I will make my decision on this stone tomorrow (Thur.). Let me know if it''s possible. I know you''re busy and this is short notice, so I understand either way. Drop me a line when you can.

I did it already - but the Sarin scan only gives me 1/2 the data I need.

Only a 3D sarin DiaVision scan can give us all the info and most dealers do not have the up to date equipment.

Hi SRH,

I only saw your PM right now. Sorry for my late reply.

There is no need to worry about the small difference between Sarin and GIA.

''Diamcalc-ing'' your measurements, I end up with a slightly different idealscope-view than Garry''s, but that could be because of some different assumptions on missing data.

All in all, it looks like you have a very nice stone. I would guestimate that it could be graded on the border of AGS-1 and AGS-2.

Live long,

Thanks again for all the help. I am going to purchase this stone today I think.

Paul, can you post the ideal scope picture you generated?
