I will try to keep this as short as possible and try not to bore everyone too much with all of the details. The story goes like this.....my wedding set consists of two diamond band soldered on either side of my engagement ring. I took my rings into a trusted jeweller (the same jeweller that made me a very nice diamond bangle) and asked him to unsolder my rings, size each ring up 1/2 size then solder them back together, for which he charged me $100. My rings obviously got passed off to the grade B benchman, because my rings were returned with the comfort fit shanks completely crushed and two smashed diamonds. Then came the tears, mass upset, negotiation, an admission that they made a major mistake....and so on...The bottom line is that they had to make a new half shank for my engagement ring and remake the two diamond bands completely over since there was so much damage to the gold on the inside of the rings. They managed to repair my engagement ring and return it to me within one week. I still have to wait a few more weeks for my diamond bands.

Having my rings unsoldered for the first time in a long time, I thought it would be fun to browse the stores and try on some different diamond bands. I came across one at Birks that I actually think looks better than my original. I must have gone back into the store 6 times to try that ring on. It was haunting me because it fits so perfectly with my engagement ring. I finally broke down and bought it, knowing that Birk''s has a 30 day money back guarantee if I change my mind. So the question is, why did I buy a new diamond band when I''m having two diamond bands being remade? I can''t decide if I should keep this ring or not. The reason I like it is because a) It''s much more comfortable to wear than my original three rings; b) I think the size of the diamonds are more proportionate with my engagement ring and make my main stone stand out more. All the rings are very good quality stones -- all VVS-VS F/G color. I''m thinking that if I keep this new band, I could turn the other diamond bands into earrings (huggies) -- or is that a waste? What to do?

I''m going to post a picture of my original set and then the new unsoldered version with the new band -- please give me your opinions. I''m also going to post pictures of the gorgeous packaging from Birks, including the beautiful silver plated box they gave me with my ring. I thought of this after reading the Leon thread about the cheapy boxes he puts his platinum creations in.

I say keep the new band (it''s beautiful) and take the two old ones and combine them to make one fabulous eternity band. That''s my $.02

I think it looks beautiful both ways - but if I had to pick, I''d probably go with the one band.

What about calling the jeweler and having the 2 bands sized to fit your right hand? Maximum blingage on both hands?

thanks....I thought of that. Yes, it would combine to make a full carat eternity band. I think that''s better than earrings actually.

I absolutely love the look of the new band with your e-ring, and I like that they are not soldered together. I think they're a perfect match! I would keep the new band.

Do you like to mix and match? Do you think you'd have much use for the other two bands if you kept this one? I think the earrings sound like a good idea--especially if you don't think you'd wear the other bands.

I reallyreally love the new band with your e-ring--gorgeous set!

ETA--just read the post about the full eternity--now that's a great idea!

Here is another picture I found of my original set...(I''m so confused

They are both beautiful, but I tend to like the one band best! I think it shows off your ring better and you can have fun resetting the diamonds from your other bands!!

New band looks really good with your ering. The box is pretty swell, too.

Yeah.....I think it was the box that sealed the deal.....

My vote''s for the new (single) band. Looks great with your solitaire.

BTW your bracelet''s pretty too!

sorry

I love your new band, you MUST keep it. It looks perfect! Lots of options with the other two.....

And yes, lovely packaging.

I remember your three rings from being posted before and always liked the look. However, I must say that I like the new band better! The one band makes your ering more the center of attention IMO.

I like the idea of taking the other stones and making an eternity ring. You wouldn't lose any stones and it would be a whole new look on both hands!

I definitely vote for the new band - it's just a sleeker, more streamlined look. Very, very pretty!

It''s seems so far from everyone''s comments that my instincts were correct -- the new unsoldered version with the single more delicate band is a better match. Thanks ladies. I really appreciate your opinions.

I''d return the new ring, and have the diamonds removed from the other two bands and re set either channel (just like the new one), or shared prong. Why not just use your existing stones to replicate that new band and save the money?

I thought of doing exactly that. The thing is, the diamonds in my original set are .10 each. In the new band, the diamonds are around .05. I tried on a larger channel set ring at both Birks and Tiffany, just for fun, and everyone at both stores seemed to agree that it overwhelmed my main stone. You''re right though....it does seem like a bit waste of money depending on how you look at it....thus my dilemma.

Please keep the Birks as well! Its just gorgeous with your ring! I mean, a girl needs ring options, right!?

I really think your original set is gorgeous, but I love this look as well. Hmmmm tough call - a full carat eternity band sounds tempting..

Also, that is one GORGEOUS bracelet lady!
