I don''t know if some of you remember that I bought this LOGR with SI diamonds for my pear shaped mandarin. Well, I didn''t care much for the SI diamonds, so I had returned it and paid for the diamond VS upgrade. The are full cut VS diamonds now (I louped them), so much better. Well here''s a shot of the stone on an overcast muggy day. No sun to be found anywhere. I will take more pics when the sun comes out, but this stone really glows outdoors. It''s nice that it''s no longer in that ugly prong setting. The stone I just realized has a slightly sleepy appearance. My other asscher spess is very crystal, but I can see the sleepiness in the stone when I comare it to the asscher, otherwise, it would be difficult to ascertain.

4 carats.

Same picture but further away, and with the other spess for comparison.

Very pretty. Though both are gorgeous, I have to admit I like the pear more than the cushion. That setting really fits that pear to a T.

Wow! What a color on that spess! And the setting is gorgeous!

That setting Is incredible for your spess! it looks fantastic!

wow-it''s beautiful in that setting!

Quick question-what does it mean to say a stone is sleepy? I''ve seen it mentioned on here a time or two about various stones.

TL, they both look incredibly gorgeous. You''ve done well with the choice of settings too!!!

yea you mentioned that one was sleepy..do you think that has to do with origin? Which is which do you know? The color on the pear seems to be a more orange were as the other seems to have some brown..or is that just the way the pics are

Fantastic re-set. W

It''s strange because I see more sleepiness in the Asscher cut!!!

Hi Amguy,
Yes, I do think it has to do with origin, the sleepieness that is. I really think this stone is Namibian, which would be cool since it's large and relatively clean. The asscher does have a slight brown cast, but I love that stone anyways. The person that sold me the asscher told me that one was Namibian (that's what his source told him), but it has all the telltale looks and signs of being Nigerian.

The middle of this pala page talks about the sleepiness of Namibian material.

Thanks LD,
THe asscher is actually as clean as a whistle. It''s gorgeous, I highly recommend asscher cut garnets in medium tones. With the high RI, they look like a hall of mirrors.

Thanks Packrat!
To me "sleepy" means the stone has microscopic inclusions that give a hazy look to the stone. Some stones can be more "sleepy" than others.

Thanks for the kind words from everyone. I was really happy how this turned out and how well it fit the LOGR. It''s a substantial setting as well, lots of gold and diamonds. Thick shank. I tried to photograph the profile, but it came out fuzzy. Have to retry that. This was made to fit a 7x11 stone, but my spess, is 8x11. My jeweler did a great job setting it as well.

Wow, that looks great, the setting really brings out that beautiful orange color

Just gorgeous TL! Thanks for the comparison shots as well.

And the diamonds on this setting are definitely way better than from the first setting. I think it definitely makes a difference.

They are both really, really beautiful. I hope you enjoy wearing them often

Wow TL, your pics keep getting better and better!! I love how it turned out, and even though it took longer and was a hassle, I think it was worth sending the first setting back. If I ever get a spess, that''s the kind of glow I''d go for!

WOW! That pear spess in its new setting is such a stunning & lovely gem to look at!
