I have hopes that this next stone will be my ''forever'' stone and wedding set, so I want to get it right! It will be the asscher next!

BUT, if I go with a plain solitaire setting, it won''t hurt the pocket as much IF we upgrade the stone again and have to get a new ring made (because Mark told me ''Setting a larger diamond into a crown that had been set and finished with a smaller stone won''t be an option. Changing the center crown won''t be an easy task.'').

I am terrible, aren''t I? Speaking about ''forever'' stone and then in the same breath making allowances for future upgrades!

Oh you are cracking me up! Although (

) it''s not like you can''t reuse the diamonds in the diamond setting in something else... or get the setting set with a nice colored gem.... like Pokey''s Tsavorite.

HAHAHA I did ask Mark if setting a similar sized colored stone in the setting is an option

Got to plan for all eventualities!

because the wedding band is a peice of art on it''s own, I''d go with the 2.5 plain solitaire with 6 prongs.

Ditto, funny how mrssalvo and I almost always agree. Jade, girl this is going to be YUMMO!!!!

Thks lisa & mrssalvo!

Another thing just occurred to me - flat band or tapered knife edge?

Arghhhhhhhhhh I really should get back to work instead of dreaming about my new rings

On my way to catch a plane, but I wanted to put my vote in for a plain MWM solitaire with a fluid, 6 prong head and that STUNNING eternity ring!!! I agree that you should take advantage of Mark''s amazing platinum skills which would best be shown off in a gorgeous solitaire. Oh, and I also vote for the width somewhere around 2.5 and no bigger than 3mm. Can''t wait to see it!!!!

hee hee JL seems like most of the consensus is the platinum 6 prong solitaire with 2.5mm width and that blingalicious eternity band. so when will we see the finished pictures? chop chop!

Another vote for 6-prong, 2.5mm plain band solitaire with that lovely eternity band.
36.gif

JL, my vote is for 2 mm plain band with 4 prongs with the eternity band. My preference has always been for 4 prongs over 6. How secure are MWM''s 4-prong settings? Also, I love the look of 2 mm because it really makes the center stone pop.

I too think 2 mm plain band with only 4 prongs with the eternity band. But for the soft knife edge?? I say no. Can''t wait to see the finished project!! WOW!!!
30.gif

I vote for the 2.5mm plain solitaire, or the 2mm plain.

I also vote for 4 prongs....LOVE that look...if Mark says it will be secure. I think with his talent a custom built 4 prong would be much safer than a typical pre-fab 4 prong set up. But I''d defer to Mark, because I love the 6 prong too. I just like the 4 prong more....

DITTO!!! Oh, Jade, this is going to be a work of art. i can''t wait to see it finished. How is Button?

For me it really has nothing to do with a 4 prong not being SECURE enough...though that is a consideration.

But basically with a 4 prong you have alot more exposed girdle than you do with a 6 prong. I noticed with my smaller stones that I didn't knock my hand around as much as I seem to with this larger stone. I don't worry though since it's 6 prongs..less exposed girdle.

Since JL's stone is so big, I just have to say SIX PRONGS. I know Lynn has 4 prongs and in the past I loved 4 prongs with a 8.7mm stone I gotta say six. Also, because I am not that careful with it, I like not having to worry about my expensive stone falling out of my setting if I were to take a prong off with a clumsy move.

Ditto again. I say plain solitaire because the solitaire will really make your main stone pop, and Mark''s platinum work is just so beautiful. I agree with Mara that 6 prongs seems to make the stone look larger, and I think 4 prongs sometimes make a round stone look a little square, while 6 prongs keeps the round look.

Thanks for all the ideas!

Re: Dates - mark hasnt even agreed to take it on yet, but he''s been very busy and hasn''t replied to my 2nd email. I did tell him there is no particular hurry, because GOG is still searching for a stone for me. YES - 8.7mm is just a hypothetical figure at the moment, but it will be at least 8.7mm (or more!). I would like to start on the band first though, if Mark has got time. If he hasn''t got time, I will wait till he does
9.gif

I am swinging towards plain band, max 2.5mm (2mm if Mark says it''s doable) but I''m not sure if I should get Mark to make me a straight band or tapered one.

The diamond band will not be full eternity - just half

Re: Prongs - I am waiting to speak to Mark about this to ask him about security of the stone, the style of the ring etc, because he mentioned that he is developing a matching ring for the diamond band, and a matching band for the sunburst solitaire. I''m not sure if the matching ring for the diamond band WILL have diamonds in it, so I''ll have to ask him!

Re: 6 prongs - I''ve only ever had one 6 pronged ring before, and that was my very poorly made original e-ring, so I think subconsciously I have always ''disliked'' 6 prongs just cos of my original e-ring. However, MWM''s 6 prong solitaires are divine, so I''m tempted too!

Re: More exposed girdle in 4 prongs rings - I haven''t had a problem so far, but like mara said, (
9.gif

), the new stone will be bigger, so there is more of a chance of knocking it around, which brings the question - if set in 6 prongs, which way should the prongs be oriented to maximise coverage of the stone?

I too would vote 2.5 plain ering with six prongs and eternity band. I was looking at the BB&B website tonight and saw a three stone mounting (apparently not a designer piece) that had the center stone with six prongs and the two side diamonds with four prongs. It looked really good. I currently have four prongs but have recently begun to look at the six prongs. I think I agree with Mara that it makes the stone look larger but really haven''t had a chance to get out and compare settings. The last time I was at Tiffany''s looking around I spoke to a salesperson about their rings. The are of course famous for the Tiff six prong solitaire and he gives you the speel about the look and the security. When you look at their three stone mountings, they are all four prong only. He said that was their ''tradition''. I don''t know what that says about the safety of the stones though! The six prong mounting definitely gives that larger circle look - the key word being larger!

I don''t think Mark could make a four or a six prong that I didn''t like but for this project I would definitely vote six! Can''t wait to see the finished project!

Simple solitaire with 5 (

) prongs.

Irina!

As if the decision is not hard enough, you are throwing in a beautifully photoshopped 5 prong ring!

Cheeky
11.gif
, but thanks!!

Seriously, 5 prongs will be rather unique, AND be secure for the stone at the same time right?

LOL Jade, i guess so. I always wanted someone to go with 5 prongs because symmetry of 5 is actually mysterious and magical to me.
It belongs in the nature only to organic forms, no crystal in the world have it - only life forms. Lattice can have symmetry of 2, 3, 4,...6. Where is 5? Flowers!

Hey Jade I wish you luck with your project. Can wait to see pictures. I love the picture Irina brought up. Lovely.
Tell me something, the dog in the picture above your name is a Cockapoo? Let me know, I am anxious to know because my daughter is in love with those dogs.

Irina,

I will make a mention of having 5 prongs to Mark and see if he can do something like that!

Caracol,

Thanks! The puppy is a spoodle - miniature poodle crossed with cocker spaniel. Isn''t he gorgeous?

Shay honey!

Button is doing great, and he''s very active now. My belly is getting massive, and he responds to touch when i rub my belly now!

Well... I still like the 6 prongs set the way I said I did... but the five prongs are intriguing. I think NOT tapered bad-- so straight for my vote. I don''t know about knife edge... I don''t think I would like the lines of a knife edge with the lines of your gorgeous diamond band. So... no on the knife edge. I like a rounded shank with that-- more fluid.

ok, I''m late but I vote for the e-ring AND band to both have diamonds. I''m am soooooo off everyone else''s suggestions. You are not in the US and it would be costly to keep sending the rings back to Mark for polish. I have 2 plain bands and it takes no time to scratch them all up...........especially caring for a babe (mine is 11 months and walking now, boo hoo, they grow too quick). Enjoy the cuddle early time because soon they will be off and no more cuddles for mama!! My 7yo likes to cuddle but when she sits on my lap she breaks my legs and she''s skinny.

anything from Mark you choose will be gorgeous. when is the baby due, i''m out of the loop and don''t know how far along you are........too lazy to look up old posts.

Jaime

I prefer straight bands too, but I also want it to sit flush with the diamond band.

Marriahlyn, I considered diamonds in both rings, but I''m just not sure I will like the combined width on my fingers. I think I shall have to go and try more rings to find out!

I am due on 8th Oct!

Mmmmmmm, Buttercup ring! That masterpiece has been my "dream ring" since the moment I first saw it! When I get my "forever" diamond, I am totally going for it!

I am sure whichever option you select, it will be perfect!

Jade I kinda like a tapered band at the head/shoulder like the Ritani...but I don''t know if it would go with your style. And I''d say no knife edge since it''s harder to pair other bands with it, like the issues Dem was having with pairing other bands with her e-ring.

ditto, and I''d do no taper...

I agree with some taper, however, not as extreme as the Ritani because I''m not feeling it with wedding band. My latest solitaire''s taper is midway between straight and the Ritani. At a glance it looks straight. The slight taper adds a subtle boost to the center stone. No vote for knife edge.

I vote 2.5mm plain platinumn band and I love a 4 prong if MWM can come up with with some sort of basket (Lynn B''s delicious head comes to mind... hmm don''t take that little quote out of context!)

And why the half eternity wedding band?
My first "going steady" ring from hubby was a half eternity and it SPINS and drives me crazy.
Also, I think a full eternity looks so cool from the palm side of the hand.

Last opinion- the gradual loss of polish is appealing in a sentimental way.... like "awwww, look how long I''ve been wearing it!" Then when you polish it, it''s like "wow! look at my ring!"

my .02

enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yes that puppy is super gorgeous !!! Is he yours? congratulations if he is. Super puppy.

Good luck !
