Well, it''s not exactly mine, but one of my fellow gem-loving buddies was lucky enough to snag this opal, and I thought you might like to see it, especially since there aren''t many on this forum. It''s an Ethopian hydrophane opal, .96ct, and cut by Cindy Stair.

I especially love how this opal is faceted, rather than the usual cabochon.

That opal really is beautiful, and the other ones are quite lovely as well.

Opals are always an eye catcher with the way it throws around different colours to the eye. A nice addition to the collection.

Awesome! You did a great job capturing the colors in the photographs. Not many faceted opals out there, that''s a brave cutter

Opals are extremely difficult to photograph and you did an amazing job. I love your pictures, and I bet if you were to publish them in a book, it would sell. You are one extremely talented gemstone photographer. I should send my emerald to you to photograph!! LOL! What kills me is that you don''t even use an expensive camera!! OMG!

TL,
You can count me in as another who would gladly have Cellantani photograph my gemstones for me. All her pictures are so focused and capture the various colours so beautifully.

Opal is my birthstone and I have always wondered if they could be faceted.
Now that I have seen it I wonder why it isn''t done more often.

It needs a certain depth and shape to be a good candidate as a facetable opal. Also, it isn’t easy to polish opals due to its softness.

Wow! I''ve never seen a faceted opal either! It''s my birthstone but I''ve strayed to the tourmalines because I usually don''t love cabs. I love how the faceting just adds more to the fire!! How are you going to set it!?

TL, I didn''t mean to be misleading, but these are actually photos my friend sent me. She''s a wonderful photographer too, but what''s even better, is that she also uses a Canon PowerShot. And I would love to have the chance to photograph your stones - you''ve got quite a collection!

It also needs a certain degree of translucency, otherwise faceting it doesen''t make that much sense.
