FWIW, Kenny, who owns an Octavia, said that he thought that the cut was best in over 1ct sizes so that the step pattern was visible (hope I am remembering accurately.. sorry if this is source confusion Kenny!) I know you want something unique, but a true ideal H&A *is* unique

and looks great in .77ct.

Humm... I have already ask GoG to check if there might be anything of my interest. Still waiting but i doubt there will be any.. as what you guys said, the Octavia will look nicer on a larger stone..so is the Solasfera... crap..

Limited choices because of limited $$$

If your girlfriend really wants an emerald cut, she won''t be happy with a round brilliant. I have an emerald cut and I love it more than any round brilliant. Emerald cuts aren''t that hard to find, and unlike asschers, you can buy them in different length to width ratios.

OK.. I hired an accomplice! Her friend is going to sound her out tonight!
I need a firm answer today! WARTIME!

Updates:

Basically, she wanted something like this:
- Something special ie. not available from common retail stores,
- Good quality stone (She said emerald because she felt that emerald are always made with better quality stone and hence more expensive..

So i continue to source and encounter a RB stone with:
Cert: GIA
Color: D
Clarity: VS1
Remarks: Feathers and Cavity.

There no other avail data on the diamond for now.

Question is on the Cavity, how bad is a cavity on a RB?
Is cavity always on the surface of the diamond?
Some cavity affect the integrity of the diamond, how do you know which will?

What do you guys think about diamonds with cavity?

Another question, can you grade a diamond BEFORE it was cut and polish?
Is there any way to determine the quality, mainly color and clarity of the stone in its raw form?

VS1 will not have a structural integrity problems. I think most cavity are on the surface, might be wrong.

From what I understand, you can roughly estimate the color of the rough and have a rough idea on where the inclusions are. Planning and cutting the polish stone can change the color grade somewhat, clarity grade definitely by careful planning of the final polish stone to avoid or place the inclusions in location where it will be less visible, etc.

I don''t have much new to add here- just want to second much of the great advice you have been given so far.

I second the notion that if she mentioned emerald you should go with that or at least a square- rectangular shape. If she mentioned it, its important to her. The octavia suggestion is a great one! I would get that in a heartbeat- she would be thrilled with the rarity of it, and its insanely beautiful.

I also second dropping down to an E color or even F and getting a stone over 1ct. I am very very very color sensitive and have an E which was totally undistinguishable from a D upon much scrutinization, with a side by side comparison. The bigger size will be noticable and appreciated I''m sure. Sometimes people think they need to have D IF until they know a little about diamonds and realize there is such a minute difference dropping a grade visually, but a huge difference in price. Most would rather have a bigger stone that doesn''t even sacrifice a high quality look.

Good luck to you in your search, keep us posted! Try to get more info from her if possible!

I like the look of the 1st pic more. Anyone knows who can do it and perhaps the cost involve for something like that? I can't find a side profile look, is it a tension settings?

Do you think i can have this setting below budget of 1k without the micropave (correct?) Basically without the smaller diamonds around it.
