New here - first sapphire purchase

Hello,

I'm totally new to all this so please be gentle with me!

I've just purchased my first sapphire from my husband- for the birth of my daughter 9 weeks ago.

I'm aware it is heat treated but due to our budget it was going to need to be.

It's 1.91 carat

This is the ring I'd like it put into (A diana porter design)

...here comes my questions- is it going to almost appear black?

I am aware my stone is not as favourable as the lighter sapphires - but in some lights it's a 'greeny shade'

This was picked up in an antique jewellers & I fell in love with it.

I personally like the little bit of green in your sapphire. As someone who used to own a deep blue sapphire set in an enclosed bezel, I can tell you that bezeling a dark stone may indeed make it look almost black in some lighting conditions. But I really love the setting you chose! Perhaps there would be some way for the designer to add some piercings or cut-outs to the sides of the bezel to let in a bit more light?

Thanks- I am only opting for a bezel setting due to not wanting the maintenance of claws & catching them.

The cut out idea is a good option-I will suggest it and look for some images online.

i think thats a very pretty stone, i too like darker color sapphires. there is a possibility with a full bezel you may make it look black tho.

If your photos are accurate, I would not want to chance a bezel unless you really don't mind if its not obvious that its a sapphire

100% Agree! Is there any other settings that you find your eye drawn to?

Congrats on the birth of your daughter!!

I have a sapphire that is probably similar in tone that was in a fully enclosed bezel like the setting you've suggested when I received it. The only time I see ANY colour or indication that it's a sapphire is when it's off my hand so light can get through the bottom of the setting.

If you want the protection of a bezel maybe something like this that would give it the best chance at sparkling and showing you its colour once set?

This is from the Etsy vendor Daniel M's sold section, but maybe the designer you want to go with could create something similar in the brushed look you like?

Thankyou-she arrived on our 6th wedding anniversary do it's a lovely joint pressie from my husband.

I love that setting so much! I've never even seen one - & fact the light can still get in but the
Protection isn't compromised- thankyou very much.

Bezel is just my priority with young children - though petit may have nailed it!

I know the lighter more vibrant stones that can handle a setting like my original plan are ideal but I deep down prefer the darker hues.
