I''m looking for suggestions for a new handbag. I usually buy Coach, but I want something different. I had myself talked into a Marc Jobs hobo style "turnlock" bag, but the salesperson said I needed to be careful with the light color rubbing against dark denim, etc. She said the softer leather can get marked by darker colors. Anyway, I still love the style and hardware on the Marc Jacobs. I want something that I can wear on my shoulder with cool hardware on the bag. Any ideas?

I have pics posted somewhere of my MbyMJ Luxy Faridah in Chalk. I have never had an issue with darker colors rubbing off on the leather, not once in the two years I''ve carried it. It''s a fabulous bag and I get so many compliments on the color, I carry it in winter when I wear my winter white coat, and in summer as well.

I absolutely love Kathy Van Zeeland''s designs. They''re fun, affordable, and very practical for my lifestyle. A big plus - they really can take abuse! I have four kids, and it''s almost guaranteed the 2-year-old is going to "play mommy" with my bag and drag it around.

I have three KVZ''s, and they all look fabulous, despite having a toddler, 4-year-old, and an 8-year-old girl. The 11-year-old likes how much space I have in it (snacks, Nintendo accessories, and juice pouches all fit nicely with diapers, my cellphone, wallet, and the rest of the toys).

Wait...if it''s a bag that sits under your shoulder, how will darker denim dye it? I''m a little confused by that. I''d think it depends more on the denim than the bag itself. Plus, with a really soft leather, you could always treat it with a suede or nubuck protector to try to ward that stuff off.

Does MJ still have the patent bags? The patent styles with the big flat turnlock was really pretty, but I haven''t been shopping in ages (hint hint! I''d be glad to help ;).

Not sure what your budget is but the Jimmy Choo Ramona or Rikki are to die for!

Well, I''m a huge fan of Rebecca Minkoff bags - I thought about a MbyMJ, because I think some of them are really nice looking, but the RM''s seemed sturdier to me, plus I like the fact that its a cool designer but not as common so I''m not likely to see others carrying the same bag. With the sales, I''ve been able to get some great deals on RM bags lately - check out Luna Boston, they have a good selection of her bags and should give you a sense of whether you like them or not - I find there''s a lot of overlap in people who like both designers.

RM''s are gorgeous bags. Depends on which geographic area you''re in, it seems, as far as designers being commonplace...where I''m located in the Midwest you see nothing but Coach, I have NEVER seen a Marc Jacobs bag around these parts, ha ha! You''re in Cali, right AG?

Another Rebecca Minkoff fan here

Wow, thanks for the input everyone!

Monarch -- It''s nice to know that your MbyMJ bag has held up well. The color I like is light french gray (or something like that).

Elmorton - I''m not necessarily worried about denim, but hearing that made me think I would trash it easily. I''m kind of hard on my bags! I haven''t done much shopping myself lately, so anytime! :)

I''ll have to check out the Rebecca Minkoff bags. I do like "sturdier" bags. I''m off to search...

Yup, Northern Cali. I do see RMs periodically here, especially in downtown or other fancy SF neighborhoods. Its funny though, I was in TX this weekend and definitely didn''t see any - I''m moving there, so it will be really interesting to see if my tastes change once I''m down there...

I have a michael kors bag that I really like. You can often find them on clearance at places like loehmans about half off. I like the soft leather and the pocket details on mine.

i lovvvveee my marc jacobs caramel colored bag(don''t know what it is) bought it 4 years ago in scottsdale while vaca''ing with my daughter...BUT the leather has been scratched a couple of times near the bottom and although you can''t see it, i''d give it a "3" (out of a 1-to-5 scale) for durability. the bag was over 1200 i think which is leading me to think only the LV''s really do hold up for years and years. i just bought a prada at christmas then returned it as it was another leather(pink n gorgeous tho) but i knew with my lifestyle(5 kids) i''d probably not have it pristine looking for long! have fun shopping. i am on an EVERYTHING ban till we figure out what''s going to happen with dh''s job...

I have a cream Marc Jacobs bag that is hobo style and sits on my shoulder. Have had no problems with the color or wear/tear. It''s pretty durable. I have had it for a few years.

My fave though is my Balenciaga. It''s a bit distressed, so I definitely don''t feel like I have to be precious with it.

I''m the opposite - because it''s distressed, I feel like I have to baby my bal''s leather a bit since it''s already on the thinner side. I don''t want my $1400 bag ripping/breaking open on the bottom like the horror stories I''ve seen on tPF

My RM is TOUGH, though! I''ll throw that girl around. Plus, it cost me about 60% less
