I bought this cameo from an antique mall.
The frame was long gone, it was probably gold and went for scrap.
So I made a new one from sterling. She turned out ok. She's not a perfect oval, but I did the best I could on short notice!
Yay, a new necklace for Stracci...like I need another necklace.....!

How great is it that you are giving this antique cameo a new lease on life?! I think it looks wonderful in its new silver scallop-y frame, and the chain is the perfect accompaniment - enjoy!

Ao pretty! Love that you saved her.

I appreciate your kind words! I saw her in that shop, and I just couldn't leave her languishing there all naked and sad!
She is wonky shaped, and I still worry that the prongs are off, but it's ok, she's entirely hand made. A collaboration between me and some long gone Italian guy.....
Look at how wavy she is!

Wow! That's seriously wavy. The whole design makes sense now - I see why you used a thin strip for the mounting ...

Your ingenuity and skill never cease to amaze.

That wavy edge caused me some angst today, but I figured the thinner wire was the way to go.
I could've framed her in several different ways, but this was the easiest one. 'Cause I'm lazy!

That just makes me see the curve of the shell she probably came from. Great job as usual.

I adore cameos.
Well done!!

Thanks @Lookinagain !
Yeah, if you look at old cameos, you can see how the bezels are all custom shaped to the curve of the shell.

I'll be wearing her to work today. She'll get a great view of the world from my neck!

Had to come back and look again and appreciate your handiwork. It looks like she is looking up at you and thanking you for a new life!

Thank you! I wore her today, and she
seemed happy......! Lol!

You never cease to amaze me with your jewelry making skills. She looks perfect in her new frame but I was surprised at the side view, that it one wavy cameo!

I hesitated before buying it because of the wonky shape.
But the classical Roman face was so nice, and I felt sure it was 19th century, so I bought it anyway. I figured that I'd work out a framing solution somehow.

@stracci2000, are cameos usually that wonky? I wonder if a lot of them are but the frames they are set in do a good job of disguising it.

I really love your cameo, she is so pretty. Wavy and all, what a great craftsperson carved her. I’m looking at the close up and see her skin is darker (peachier) than her white dress; carved at a different depth. Italian sculpture informed!

And shes not even a top notch carving. I've seen some cameos that just take your breath away.

Maybe I'll have one of those one day....!
