New diamond suddenly makes old band sparkle more?

Ok, all you diamond experts, please educate me! =)2

A few days ago I received my double shank halo e-ring reset with a new ACA diamond. I was expecting and definitely got a stone full of fire and sparkle (it’s just gorgeous and I can’t stop starring at it).

What I wasn’t expecting though was that the pave stones in the e-ring band and wedding band suddenly seem to flash a lot more fire and sparkles. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. It’s a pleasant surprise!

I’m just curious though, what is making that happen? Are the pave diamonds in the band really just reflecting the color dispersions from the center diamond? Or are they actually now creating their own “fire”? The bands never sparkled fire before. The previous diamond in the setting was not a super ideal and produced some fire but not a lot. But the bands never produced noticeable fire before, just bright white.

See some pics below to see what I’m talking about:

On the pic above, there is some color dispersion (is that the right term?) on the far right side of the band. That’s not coming from the center stone, right?

See lots of purple sparks all over the bands above.

Been hoping to get more intentional fire shots but the weather has not been cooperating. Have had nothing but clouds, rain and thunderstorms here in Central Florida.

Thanks and Happy 4th of July! :wavey:

Congratulations on your new ACA; it looks beautiful in your setting. My 2 thoughts on the side stones; the professional cleaning may have removed some film or something like that on the pave diamonds or a great center stone always seems to make side stones pop more.

WF probably cleaned the setting really well for you! It is amazing how dirt build up can cause diamonds to appear dull and hazy. Beautiful setting and ACA!

Thanks @marcy and @SimoneDi, that makes sense.

I do clean my rings daily in a warm water bath and couple drops of Dawn but I suppose an occasional deep clean as @Texas Leaguer recommended the other day would be a good idea.

I have a jewel jet steam cleaner I use for my other jewelry but have been nervous to use it on these rings for fear of loosening the small stones.

Would it be ok to use the steam cleaner on occasion to prevent build up? Or would an ultrasonic cleaner be better?

@shoechick I don’t have the best experience/knowledge when it comes to taking care of pave, but what I personally do every-so-often is visit a local jeweler and ask for a deep clean. I am sure that some of the other members with more extensive experience will chime in :)

Wow, your set looks gorgeous! I agree with simoneDi and on top of daily cleaning I visit a local jeweler every so often for a deep cleaning! Enjoy your new sparkler!!!

I think steam is better than ultrasonic with pave if I’ve remembered that correctly - the only small pave-style rings I have are bead set so I’ve not paid super close attention to recommendations for cleaning pave.

Ooohhh pretty !! I love it and it such a beautiful stone and the setting really goes well with it

I agree to have your ring professionally cleaned. I wouldn’t use either a steam cleaner or ultrasonic on your pretty pave ring.
