Hello everyone... Today was my first day of diamond shopping and had a budget of 15k with the ring and setting. I've decided that I was going to get my girl a round cut, 1.5 ct, G color, VS1, XXX, GIA cert. I was way off! Price was way over my budget.
After talking to a few dealers/jewelers, I was brought down to reality. I was shown a few diamonds;
1) A similar diamond I was originally looking for (way over my budget)
2) Similar specs as I was looking for but the carat size is around 1.3ish (at the budget)
3) 1.5, F color, SI2, XXX (under budget)
The thing that shocks me is the difference between #1 and #3 is the clarity. I've compared both side to side and I couldn't tell the difference except #3 looks a bit whiter. I really can't see the imperfections in number 3. I am really shocked about the price difference because of clarity.
My question is ...
1)Is it worth getting #3 or find a larger diamond and with a higher clarity rating to meet my budget?
Or
2) Get diamond #2... Sacrifice the size but get a higher quality stone.
