I have pictures of my new custom ring from a local jeweler, and I haven''t seen it in person yet, but do these prongs look too thick? Picture quality isn''t great, I know, but they do seem awfully thick, and the jeweler has said he can''t make them any thinner, or else it''ll compromise the security of the stone. What do you all think? I''d appreciate your thoughts! (The stone is not fully set yet, obviously, and the prong tips will be thinner.)

The stone is my new ACA.

Yeah the prongs look too thick for your stone. You have quite a bit of thinning down that you can do there before the security of the stone will be compromised. I would have him change it.

Yeah, I''m not loving that look.

Yes, they do look thick. And I don''t think in this case it''s an optical illusion

It looks like he''s used a prong head that''s for a bigger stone????

I think the band looks lovely though

is that ring finished? why are the prongs going above the stone. It is not in good shape right now at least imho.

I agree they are too thick.

Seems too thick, but I think I''d need to see a top view to be sure. I am sure the prongs don''t need to be that thick to keep the stone stable!

Thanks, everyone. If he keeps saying that the prongs need to look that way in order to keep the stone stable, how do I get him to make them thinner?

tarssarb, the ring is definitely not finished. I still need to come in and decide how high I want the stone set, and then the prongs will no longer go above the stone. The ring''s not polished or plated yet, either.

It looks pretty thick to me as well but I love your setting...it''s beautiful

well then I don''t necessarily think the metal is too thick. the extended metal makes it too hard for me to judge at least in these pics. It also looks set quite high, but these are all personal tastes. I suppose it depends also on the alloy used... g/l
