Hello!
My fiance just received our engagement and wedding band that we bought thru Blue Nile. Oh how do I wish I had come upon this site before we bought it!

Here is the GIA report info...
Princess cut
Measurements...4.21x4.17x3.15mm
Weight...0.50ct
Depth...75.5%
Table...76%
Girdle...ext thin to ext think
Cutlet...none
Polish...very good
Symmetry...good
Clarity Grade...VS2
Characteristics...Crystal, Cloud, Indented Natural
Color Grade...H
Fluorescence...faint
Comments...none

I haven''t actually gotten to see it yet but he says it''s eye clear, which it should be since it''s a VS2 right? We paid $973 for the diamond and $275 for the white gold setting. The appraisal Blue Nile sent us says it''s worth $2250.00. So it sounds to me like we got a good deal...??? My question is that since we didn''t pay thousands of dollars for the diamond and we don''t really have the extra hundred to spend on an appraisal, how do I find out if it''s really what they say it is? What about plotting since there are noted characteristics? I''m guessing that even if I had checked through here that since we didn''t pat THAT much to start with that I wouldn''t have found one a whole lot cheaper on here? Argh if only I had done a little more researchbefore I bought it! Overall I''m happy with my Blue Nile experience ...I''m sure it''s beautiful... I saw the wedding band which was channel set princesses and it gorgeous ! :c) Any feed back woyuld be greatly appreciated though as I have a 30 day refund policy. Thanks!

I would love to see pics of it too! You didn''t mention the cut as in fair, good, very good etc which has alot to do with sparkle and fire etc. Bluenile is a reptable site and we have been looking at them as well. I am sure your ring will be fine!

The price you paid seems reasonable compared to others that come up on the pricescope search engine and Blue Nile has a good reputation with a good return policy. It is kind of hard to judge princess cuts by the numbers so if it looks beautiful go with it and post some pictures for us!

OOOPS, sorry, this post was a mistake! Duh!!!!

Well, could you imagine the seller giving an appraisal for less than the price? That would truly be a shot in the foot... so to speak. It seems that the usual thing for this sort of paper to give an 'appraisal' value of about twice the cost. Meaning... nothing at all.

If you can find the same for allot less, than the price wasn't good - with the given quotes, at least I would have a hard time finding the same for allot less. The database above has proved quite reliable for that sort of comparison - as much as I've tried it out against web-based sources at one time or another. What local prices look like in your area I can't know - usually local shops are expected to charge a bit more compared to web-based shops.

About the ring in question, no comment of the setting (BN's are quite 'generic' and so are the prices). If I'd object to anything it would be the 'extremely thin' girdle on the diamond which may become a problem, especially if the stone is ever taken out of the setting and reset.

Another thing that shows on lab reports is size... and this one could have been somewhat larger for the weight (like this one). Although... princess cut diamonds have the reputation to have small spread (size for any given weight) relative to other shapes, but still some fare better than others.

My 2c

The cut is "good". I don''t have any pics yet and for some reason I can''t get BN''s generic pics to post... It''s just a standard white gold cathedral setting.

It''s a very simple ring. Of course i had wanted something a little more but this is all that would fit into our budget right now. I haven''t looked into it but if I wanted to upgrade a few years down the road will they let you trade in?

I don''t think so.

One of my good friends has a blue nile ring and it is lovely! I''m sure you will love it! I can''t wait to see pics!
