Hi! This is my first post. I have just recently found this site and love the wealth of knowledge available...but. I'm a bit overwhelmed and have to give my jeweler an answer tomorrow on a 1.5 ct asscher that I'm considering. It will be my "new" engagement ring. Same man, new ring. Long story.

Anyway, it is a lab diamond at 1.53ct, color G, clarity SI1, polish and symmetry are both good, no fluorescence. They are asking $2,000. The reason I'm hesitant is that I've been spending a lot of time on sites like JA and only considering stones with at least a clarity of VS1 or above, and polish and symmetry of at least Very Good. However the stones I've seen online have been considerably smaller to fit within my price range. On this stone at my local jewelers, I'm concerned about the clarity and the polish and symmetry being so low. I looked through the jewelers loupe and can see the inclusions, but it definitely takes the loupe to see them. I'm not picking them up with the naked eye. Also, the windmills meet in the middle. It seems to have the flashes everyone talks about and not be glassy or see through (took a printed page to see if I could read through diamond - learned that here!) - I really want this diamond but am afraid I'll get it home and find something irredeemably bad! Is realying on the naked eye an ok way to assess a diamond? I mean in-store. I didn't walk outside with it. If I get home is it possible the inclusions will show up in different lighting? Maybe these are ridiculous questions. I'm new at this! Just thinking of this scenario tonight as I'm obsessing over this decision.

I hope this is clear enough. I really appreciate any in-put!

Just bumping this in case someone can help. I've got a few more hours....

Asschers need videos and images to help.

An si1 may be eye visible, it really depends. Do you have any video or pictures or links to the stone?

You do need to see what it does in different lighting conditions. The store lights are going to be most favorable. As to inclusions, I can't answer that, but if you know they are there and can see them if you look, are you ok with that?

Also, why the artificial deadline? I don't like that the stone is being pushed like that. I would wonder why. If you buy can you return?

I think yes, you can use your eyes to evaluate an asscher.

Hey, thanks everyone for your thoughts! I didn’t include the whole story for fear of getting long winded on things that might be irrelevant, so for context:

This is a stone I had inquired about pre-Covid. The jeweler got it, and a couple other stones I wanted to compare with it, in to the store literally within days to a week of our state shutting down (late March, early April). I don’t remember the exact date.

I am learning all this first hand (hubby did all the shopping for my original e-ring years ago) so I am actually the one who set the artificial deadline :(2. Even though I ended up saying no to the diamond before Covid lockdown, she still had the stone yesterday when I went back. She said that she bought it from the vendor for inventory after I turned it down in March. She was very low key and said nothing about needing to know right away. In fact, she intimated that it didn’t matter so much now since the diamond is theirs now and they don’t have to worry about sending it back to the vendor. I guess I felt awkward going in so many times? Is it normal to keep going back in to look at the same stone? So that was my (less than) brilliant move.

Also, I am not able to post pictures yet because I’m having trouble with my phone. For some reason my phone right now is refusing to send any (working on this). But I will keep this in mind for future inquiries. Good to know. (Seems like I thought you guys had a crystal ball somewhere!)

When I expand the picture on my phone, I can definitely see the inclusion. As I’m thinking this all through, I’m thinking I’m not ok with it. Just knowing it’s there will bug me. I’m just going to have to save a little longer and perhaps go a tad smaller.

I really appreciate all your input. I was feeling alone in a vortex not being able to bounce this off anyone!

Seeing an inclusion magnified on your phone camera isn't necessarily a knock out if you can't see it with the naked eye.

I see. Yeah, actually I was able to get ahold of a loupe and check out at home some other diamonds I have on another piece of jewelry. I knew they were low clarity, but I was still shocked at how much "dirt" was there, which I've never noticed before just wearing them (they are small, though).

I told her "no". After looking at my diamonds at home, I'm wondering...
