New and need some help - Light pink spinel or morganite

Hello Everyone,

I am new here and would love some advice. I have a diamond oval halo engagement ring. In the center sits a cz as of now. I'm looking to replace it with a light pink spinel or light pink morganite. It won't be an every day ring. I am purchasing a smaller diamond ring for everyday wear. I figured out the hard way that a huge ring doesn't suit my everyday needs and my favorite colour is pink Since I can't afford a 8 x 6 pink diamond haha I figured this was the best route to go.

I am having a hard time finding the exact size I need. 8mm x 6mm oval. Would you please help direct me where I should start looking or if you know someone who could source an oval and then re-cut the stone to me desired size?

Thank you for that information. I'm a little hesitant on purchasing a stone without actually seeing pictures. And does calibrated mean not natural? I don''t know much about gems but that makes me a little nervous. Do you know if this is a reputable company? thank you

Oh I thought it would have to be exactly 8 x 6 mm. It is a halo so I'm not sure how much wiggle room there is. However, the jeweler that made the ring would be able to tell me. Thank you for your help.

Is it possible to have a professional gem cutter, re cut a stone to match the dimensions?

If you contact the vendor they can usually provide pictures. Calibrated means that they are an exact size and cut to fit masss produced settings. It's not just the size of the stones but the depth of the setting a perfect 8x6 still might not fit if its shallower or deeper then normal.

Oh ok. Do you think I'll be able to find something to fit? I purchased the setting knowing I wanted to change it out eventually. I should of had the stone first I guess. It was a pretty expensive setting so I'm hoping I can find something....

I Hope the picture worked. I don't know if I'd want to spend more then $1000 Canadian which is approx. $750 American. I'm not sure if that's a high enough budget. I would say a very light pink. Not bright or peachy. I have a pair or Morganite earrings and I love that colour. However, I don't have pictures on me.

Thank you for finding those for me. I'm looking for more of a light pink stone but they are beautiful. If I were to find one in either size, do you think a jeweler would be able to make it fit in my ring? It's made for an 8 x 6 stone. Thanks for the help!

That's ok I know ps isn't easy to understand everything about the forum right away
As that is a halo, you're going o want to stay as close as you can to a calibrated 8*6. Calibrated stones doesn't mean fake, just means they are a standard size, easy to fit into standard settings.

We may also need to worry about the depth of the stone. Colored stones are often a bit deep, and you'll have to make sure it's not too deep for the setting

Ohhh ok gotcha! Thanks for the information. I uploaded a pictured from the side so everyone can see the profile. It has four little arms (That's what I call them) definitely not the correct term and my jeweler told me its set into the halo, so it's flush. Does that make sense?

Looks like it is set extremely low and might not fit a coloured stone unless the prongs are rebuilt to be longer. Coloured stones are typically deeper than diamonds, thus is unlikely to fit your setting as it is.

That's pretty much the worst news ever. I paid $4000 Canadian for the setting. If I can't use it... How much is pink topaz?

Where would I find a pale pink topaz? And for how much? I didn't want to spend more then $750 American but if I have to, to use the setting I will definitely think about it. I tried searching online but I can't find any information...It must be expensive lol

I guess it depends on how pale it is IRL. I am looking for a pretty light/pale pink. Would you happen to know how much a pale pink topaz would cost? Are they not as deeply cut as the other gems? Because if it's say like $2000 I'd look into it. If it's like $5000 I'll need to come up with a better idea. Is the spinel not as deep either?

Gene usually does not take commisions, so I am not sure that would be work. I think Chrono might have hit the nail on the head, can you get someone to help you work out how deep a stone your setting will accomodate? Otherwise buying a spinel or a morganite may be risky.

Not sure if this is too pale but this is a 7.7 x 5.9 "light baby pink" sapphire (which should withstand the day to day wear & tear better than a morganite) from Mastercut for $150 - it doesn't look too deep so it may fit in your setting...
