UPDATE!!

BF and I went down to the jeweller who was interested in trading in my princess for an oval. He was great! However, now I have another road block with my BF.

He basically doesn''t agree with my taste. I like the Leon Mege look, art deco, antique...you name it. He thinks that they all look like old lady rings and seem high maintenance, catching on stuff (not practical). So I suggested we both incorporate our tastes into an engagement ring. A little modern and a little old fashioned. Does anyone have any pictures that incorporate both a halo type ring with pave, filigree or melee into a modern looking band? We are thinking oval shape and I want to stick with a plain wedding band.

Have you seen dirtcheapdiamond''s micro-pave collection? The rings are deco-y from the top but rather sleek and modern from the side. I tried on one in person --beautiful!
That being said, I don''t think you should compromise what you want because the jeweler doesn''t like it. You will be wearing it, not him/ Good luck!

momofthree,
The problem wasn''t with the jeweler it was with her BF. I love the micro pave from DCD, it''s deco but updated.

Whoops! Little attention to detail, this morning. Need more coffee :)

momofthree,
You said you tried on some of the micro pave collection?? I was wondering if it is comfortable??

I tried the split shank asscher. I was testing it out as something to possibly reset my emerald cut stone into on as a RHR (I was at the jeweler picking out a new eternity band for my left hand). Unfortunately, I can''t really assess comfort as the sample was very small and the ring didn''t make it all the way onto my finger. Nothing struck me as being potentially uncomfortable, though -- just a beautiful, well-crafted ring that was simple/elegant/blingy at the same time, if such a thing is possible.

Oh neat, Momothree, I was wondering if anyone had seen the DCD split-shank pave in person. I was considering the pear split-shank and talked to Jim about it by phone (ended up going custom with Quest instead). They do have a contemporary flair from the side view while still looking deco-ish from head on -- very pretty.

Or what about the look of the Ritani Endless Love halo collection (which is also similar to the DCD designs)? I think that while those have the art deco/halo look they can also come off incredibly modern because of the thin band and the clean lines. The profile view of the ring is done with modern lines. Take a look at this thread. There are all sorts of pictures on the first 3 pages.

Ritani seems to have added a bunch of new halo designs to their site, some definitely look more modern than otheres, you should check them out.

This does not have a halo but I love it.

I think it''s modern b/c the oval is set east-west and it''s old fashioned because of the pave.

THAT RING IS BEAUTIFUL!!!

Patty,
That is one beautiful ring, I love the oval going east/west!!

My girlfiriend and I had the same problem...she liked art deco, I liked more modern. When it came down to it, I figured it was what she was going to be weaing the rest of her life, so I just got her what I KNEW was going to make her the happiest, so art deco it is!
