So, thoughts???

I''m disgusted by all prostitution, but in trying to keep an "open-mind" about this newest form, I wonder:

How are the men going to be protected from conceiving children?
Will they undergo vasectomy?
I don''t think a condom is enough protection given the number of times they will have intercourse. Obviously, they can''t rely on all of the women to be protecting themselves. Additionally, wouldn''t it probably be cheaper for a woman who wanted a baby to go get knocked up by a gigolo than to buy sperm and pay for IUI??

Theoretically, some women could get hurt. (IYKWIM)
If a virgin woman goes in, she could bleed amongst other things. I don''t know what the standard is for female prostitution, but how and what should they do about blood?? Universal precautions should be taken at all times, but we all know a small amount of blood goes a long way.

I ask these questions because if it''s "legal" it has to be "kept in check" somehow.

Or, do you think that male or female, they are taking the risk and will have to live with it??

If someone wants to hire a prostitute, won't they do so regardless of the law. It would be ideal that regular check ups are underdone, however, regardless if that happens or not, legal or not, disease still will spread and yeah, it's disgusting.

I cannot imagine hiring a male prostitute.

Ding, ding, ding! People are responsible for THEMSELVES!

If you want to get paid for, or pay for sex, YOU figure out the logistis behind it.

don''t make the assumption that the clients will only be women..........the john may actually be John.

That was my immediate thought.

I don''t get the male prostitute thing. I can''t imagine having to pay for sex, as a female. LOL

Thritto! There are way more dudes at Chippendales than women, and most of the dancers are gay. That pretty much segway-ed it for me.

PS - I've never been to one, but guessing based on what I've heard.

I agree with the others that I can't imagine a woman having to pay for sex. Plus thats just gross.

And yes, I'm agreeing that I don't think women will be the biggest clientel. And anyone who hires a prostitute does so at their own risk!

Quadritto - that was my first thought. That right there is going to be big business baby. Esp for closeted folks. ---disclaimer:>

Yay! I''m so excited! Nevada is only a state away!!!

Think about it - how have female prostitutes done it all these years? It wouldn''t be any different for a man. There is a risk no matter the gender.

I think it''s kind of funny that after all these years of females being "allowed", now suddenly men are doing it, too. You have to wonder if there was a demand and that is why this law even came about.

Ahem. Sorry.

Seriously, quite apart from the very scary health risks, I find the thought that anyone would want to share such an amazingly special and intimate thing with someone who has to be PAID to do it with you... really sad.

I imagine it will be one of those things that is legal but known to be harmful, so you do it at your own risk. Like smoking cigarettes.

gigolos have existed as long as has prostitution.
rich women have had paid lovers and at least one movie has been made about it: American Gigolo.
an increased demand? i don''t think so. just the law catching up with the reality.

LOL! I was thinking that they just have to find some Robert Pattinson & Taylor Lautner look-a-likes and the legions of frustrated, middle-aged bodice-ripper-readers will come a'' running.

They''ll call it COUGERTOWN.

I''m really just surprised this wasn''t already legal. Prostitution laws aren''t gender-specific anywhere else; I''m bemused that they apparently were in Nevada.

Anyway, good for them. It ought to be legal (or at least decriminalized) and regulated everywhere.

I kind of think MILFVILLE has a nice ring to it.

Whether or not it was legal before didn''t stop people from partaking in the activity.
Prostitution is not legal on the strip... location, location, location!

Now as far as it being gender biased, I happen to believe that if the regulations were in place, it is in theory much safer than just any john in the street where it is NOT regulated. I personally think that if it were legal for a woman to be a prostitute, than it should ALSO be legal for a man. Equal rights goes both way, and I believe in equal rights to purchase sex from either gender.

Legalization is the way to go. When it''s legal, it can be regulated. Look at how clean and well organized the Bunny Ranch is in Nevada? Those women feel empowered, they get constant health checks, access to any type of contraception they need, it''s great.

These things are going to happen whether they are legal or not. Better to legalize them, regulate them, and tax them! Better for everyone.

I CAN imagine a woman HAVING to pay for sex. In my mind, she''s not very attractive...

Yes, the johns could be johns, but as in female prostitution, he could refuse to accept same gender clients (if he wanted).

I agree that anyone dabbling in prostitution is taking their own life in their hands, but, the fact remains, if it''s LEGAL, there HAS to be regulations. I really do wonder what they can/will do about babies resulting from it.

I''m not surprised that this is only now becoming legalized. It seems to me that gigolos are far less likely to go to jail or get fined even when performing illegal services than a female prostitute. Maybe they finally got their Union together and wanted benefits.

Heidi Fleiss was going to open her "Stud Ranch" but that didn't pan out she's moved on to wind farm prospects unless that has changed i should add. I think it would do well if the economy wasn't so bad. There was a lot of chatter from women interested in the idea for all the same reasons men are.

Moved away from Las Vegas WAY too soon!

That being said, I never actually thought about the fact that male prostitution wasn't legal in Nevada. Hiring a professional prostitute (meaning licensed, regulated, and regularly checked for STDs, etc.) in a state in which prostitution is legal comes with some inherent risk reduction, but with anything, you assume the risk of worst case scenario when you engage in such activities. Perhaps one will have to sign some sort of legal agreement (to not pursue child support, or to terminate, etc.) should the contact yield a pregnancy?

I agree. I think Prostitution should be legal. It seems like it would be safer for ALL parties involved physically and financially. The client (male or female) should protect themselves as well as the pro (is that what they are called?) If a woman wants to take advantage of the situation to try to get preggo than that''s HER issue not the moral compass of prostitution. Besides I would be SHOCKED if the men didn''t protect themselves from disease and allow that to happen. Yes, there are risks but frankly it is none of my business.

Wasn't there a movie about this? They proved that since the guy had never tried to track down his sperm of any other encounter, that he had no legal right to just one.

It was an anonymous sperm donor case... I think.

I can't remember and it is driving me CRAZY?!?!?!

wonder what is the "minimum inches" to qualify for the job?

Too much of a fight between casinos, Northern Nevada etc.. I doubt they will ever legalize the whole state of Nevada. Our mayor would love for Prostitution to be legal in Las Vegas, though.

MZ, does this mean that the $20 hooker I can afford won''t look like Richard Gere?

Monnie~ He may LOOK like Richard Gere, but I''m assuming he''ll be ill-equipped.
