Hi everyone,

I confirmed the purchase of my engagement ring last week, and THEN I found this site!!! Where were you when I needed you??

To say the least, I''ve been extremely nervous about my purchase. I thought I knew enough to be able to make a wise decision in selecting a round brilliant, but after visiting this site, I realised how wrong I was. To make a long story short, I called the jeweler back to find out the info on the diamond to pop it into the cut-adviser, and it scored 2.4 (phew).

0.64 VS2 F
40.7 pav
32.5 crown
59.2% depth
62.7% table
1.4% culet

The jeweler was cool about it, and explained to me that the diamond was graded EX on all counts except the table (VG). After reading up on goodoldgold.com, I learned that a bigger table is not necessarily something to have a cow over. This site is great; helpful in many ways. If anyone has any comments, please share...thanks!

Rob

Hi Rob,
I'm far from an expert, but at first glance this stones seems pancake-like. The large table in and of itself are not terrible, but I think the crown angles are very shallow (<33). There are probably better fish in the sea.
That's just my opinion.

Good luck,
Murph

The numbers are supposed to help you weed the bad performers out... but it's certainly nice to have the validation!

If it's pretty and shiny, and you're happy with it, then relax. If you're looking to squeeze more money out of it, then you could search to see if you got a good price (taking into account that the B&M markup is likely higher than online).

Hi Robibio,

Congrats on your upcoming engagement!

If you love the stone and are happy with the price you paid, then you’ve found the one.

If you are still undecided, however, then you may want to shop around a little bit more. I agree with Murph that the crown angle below 33 is not known to get lots of rave reviews.

You may want to check out USA Certed as they are located in Canada and have many positive testimonials written about them here on pricescope (just do a search on the front page of this forum and you can read about past customers’ purchasing experiences with them.) You can find stones from them with similar specs as yours by using the diamond search engine on pricescope’s homepage.

Hope this helps and congrats once again.

Actually, this could be a great looking stone.

The shallow crown may not be a problem, but that would depend upon the pavilion...although, from the angle it may be a bit shallow to be a good combination with this low crown angle.

But this is what I mean...here is a real life example of a very bright and lively stone with a 30.5deg crown and 41.7deg pavilion (AGS6!) and you can see that is performs well on the BScope...
