I've posted before here and there about things so bear with me 8) . Currently I'm in the works of designing a bracelet for my gf. I want it to be with diamonds and mystic topaz. The bracelet will be of 5 "rings" in a 1 in. diameter, hallowed out. Each circle will have a row of 14 mystic topazes with 3 white diamonds at the 10, 11 and 12 o'clock. Diamonds will be .20 points, E VVS1-VVS2, and the mystics I'm guessing will be the same carat.
My question is where in New York, ( or reliable e-tailers ) would I be able to purchase an entire lot of 60-70 mystics and 15 white diamonds at .20 points. I ask because I don't see lots with that many pieces being sold.

Are you sure you want to do a bracelet out of mystic topaz? The coating that forms the "mystic" part scratches off quite easily. I rather have a blue topaz, or some other type of topaz bracelet. You can find mystic topaz online in quantity like jtv.com, or rio grande jewelry source.

I totally agree with TL that to go to all that trouble I imagine means that you want something that will last. Mystic Topaz will not.

You should request the coloured stones in millimeters, not points.

Stuller has "buy in bulk" topaz and you can ask a jeweller or gem dealer with an account to quote you, but I'd also recommend a Swiss Blue or something that would survive in a bracelet.

Ditto on the mystic topaz. I think it's quite pretty, but the treatment isn't stable. I'd rather go with an irradiated topaz or a different stone altogether if you're just going for a particular color. It would be a shame to put so much thought into a bracelet only to have it damaged within a few months of normal wear.

I've read about mystics being coated, I was thinking about having them be in a bezel setting since the coating is on the pavilion. Also, they have to be princess cut. I've checked out those websites and to be honest the quality of the stones look kind of shotty, also a lot of them aren't natural ( I know that mystics are coated topaz ). The website by lisaesler had some really nice pieces though. I don't know what .20 would be in milimeters. :? :? :?

Even if you bezel set, it still won't protect the back of the topaz. Perfume and the stones being in contact with the skin, plus turning over (always a danger with a bracelet unless the circles are big enough or the bracelet tight enough) will still inflict wear and tear on the stones. Years ago I bought a coated topaz bracelet (bezel set ovals) and after wearing it 3 times the coatings had worn away and scratched off in places and the stones ended up looking dull. I've never bought coated topaz since. I really wouldn't recommend having a bracelet made with them. Honestly, the irradiated topaz such as Swiss blue or London blue are a much better bet - but then you have to like blue!

Wow that's troubling, something to really consider. Her favorite color is pink, but she really liked the look of mystic topaz so that's why I thought about using mystics.

How about BE diffused pink sapphires? They'll not be expensive in the size you're looking for and the treatment won't scratch or rub off. You can get square ones on Ebay but I've not seen rounds. Hopefully somebody else will be along in a minute to help out.

Edit: I just found these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-12-cts-Natural-Top-Pink-Sapphire-Round-Cut-Lot-Ceylon-loose-best-quality-rare-/290649248880?pt=Loose_Gemstones_1&hash=item43ac0b9470 Will 2mm work?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-25mm-Lot-100pcs-Round-Diamond-Cut-Natural-Pink-Sapphire-/130576057396?pt=Loose_Gemstones_1&hash=item1e66f08434 Smaller and 100 pieces. Think these may be very pale though but you could ask the seller.

There are actually tons of lots on Ebay so might be good to have a look there.

You guys are great, I've decided to leave mystics for earrings and go with other natural stones for the bracelet. As long as they are pink :D :D :D :D :D As for the bracelet, do you think that rings with 1 inch diameters are too small? Stones being .20 points too small? I'll use other shapes, possibly rounds or mix the pinks as rounds or cushions and use princess for the diamonds.

If you use 3mm stones (which Lisa has said are .20 pointers) I would cut out about 20 x 3mm circles on paper and then position them in a circle and allow for a tiny bit of space between each and on either side for the metalwork. That will tell you if the 1 inch diameter for the circle is big enough. I don't think it is because 3mm stones are fairly large in this context but it depends how big you want the inner circle also. If you want it to look like the circle you linked to above, then the circle will have to be much much bigger. 3mm stones are quite large in this context and to achieve the look of the circle you've posted, I would downsize to around 1.5mm. Even at that size, if you go for a deep pink, you'll get the effect you want.
