I have been doing research on this site and others and only concern I have is the color of the stone.. obviously pics aren't gong to give a good interpretation of the actual stone.. I was going to go look at it. I did do the https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca/ and it came out as a 1.3 using %'s for crown and pav and with actual angles it came out as 1.6 with angles. of course the age old delema is that I'm concerned with EGL.. everyone says or some say 2.5 off from what they say either in color or in clarity. And so I've been measuring the GIA with worst color and clarity to see if it's worth it or not. Owner wants $3k for it. It's actually a much bigger stone then what I wanted but price is decent I think?

my concern is color mainly as it being a VS2 I'm thinking maybe it would be a SI1 at worst which isn't bad..

Any input on what to look for would be greatly appreciated.

Is this EGL USA or EGL International? I have found that EGL USA is actually pretty accurate on clarity but softer on color.

Check this out ..
https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamond-grading/clarity-and-color

I recently sent a diamond into EGL. The clarity came out the same as an appraisal I had done to GIA standards. The color came out worse than IGI. When I have time, I went to send this diamond to GIA just to see what it comes back as.

Charmy- just a note- if an appraiser claims they can grade to GIA standards, they are making misleading statements.
Part of the difficulty in this is that diamond grading is not a precise science- therefore if one submits the same stone to GIA twice, they might get a different ( hopefully adjacent) grade.
For this reason no dealer worth their salt will pay the price for a given grade if GIA has not issued the grade- even if they believe it's that grade.

Well, an EGL J is probably like a GIA L-M, so unless it is an antique stone, I would pass. I couldn't handle "good" on symmetry, either. Don't buy a stone just because it's a good deal. Limit yourself to stones that you'd buy if you were paying full price.

For $3k, price of comps becomes a non-issue in my opinion. Even if the stone is an M-N I think that is still a very good price for the carat weight.

So the issue is appearance. Do you like how it looks? Can you make the sale contingent on an independent appraisal? Do you own an ideal scope to help you evaluate the cut?
