I'm in the final stages of buying a diamond for my baby and need your thoughts on this emerald cut:

1.28ct
VVS2
E
crown 14%
girdle 5%
table 55%
depth 70%
faint flourescence

I believe it has a certificate from HRD(Belgium) as well.

Any and all comments are welcome.

What are the measurements of the stone? I think you should stick to a G.I.A cert. reason being that if you ever want to upgrade or sell the stone it's more acceptable in the u.s.a and you would get more for it.
Why don't you check a few websites and see if they have a similar stone with a G.I.A cert.
as far as the make is concerned the ratio between the length and the width of an EC.diamond should be approx.1:1.5 length to width .
most of the sites are very informative and give you great deals ,and if you are not in the same state as they are you save the sales tax.
best of luck

Hi Dion,

Definately get this diamond checked out
by an independent appraiser prior to purchase.

Fancy cut measurements are not very a predictable
method of establishing the beauty of a stone.

The length/width ratio is about 1.3.

Does anyone have any experience with HRD certificates?? Are they fairly accurate?

Also, should I worry about faint flourescence? Is it noticeable in black light?

Thanks
Dion

The HRD cert. is very acceptable in europe, not as much in the U.S.A,.You would only have a problem later whenever you would want to upgrade, exchange or sell this diamond in the U.S.A
as far as the stone is concerned it is not to my likings but faint flourecense is not conisdered bad.

good luck

Hi Dion,

HRD is fairly accurate, and is more widely accepted
by the British and European diamond buyers.

Some experts have argued about the accuracy compared to
the GIA, but thats to be expected.

As for, faint fluorescence, that should not pose
any concerns.

Will you see it under black light?
Yes! only if its seen under the proper equiptment,
but even then it should be ever so subtle.
