Hi there guys!! :wavey:

I am in a wedding coming up very soon and my dress is a dark purple strapless gown. I need a clear deodorant that works! The deodorant I currently use is Secret solid. It does tend to leave a residue on my shirts but it is the only thing that actually works. The solids work so well on me and I have never found a clear deodorant that accomplished both not leaving a residue and actually doing it's job of keeping you fresh! Please give me some recommendations so I can start trying some before the wedding!

Also, I never really wear mascara because it always seems to turn my undereye area black. I would like to wear some for the wedding day though as I love makeup and I want my eyes to really pop! I think my problem is that I have slightly oily skin so when I blink, the mascara sticks and rubs off. Does anyone else have slightly oily skin and has a mascara that they would recommend to me?

Thanks!

Try mitchum for the deodorant. It's a clear gel and it works great. Actually discovered it many years ago when I had to borrow my boyfriend's deodorant and that's what he used. After using his it was so great, I went out and bought the ladies version so after. Never turned back!

I love this brand "blinc" for mascara: http://www.blincinc.com/#mascara

It's a bit pricey, but it is really effective in staying put! When you want to remove it just used lots of warm water and apply pressure to peel the "tubes" of mascara from your lashes. It looks a little funny the first time you see it come off, but I love the fact that it can be removed so easily with NO residue. I highly recommend!

Have you ever tried waterproof mascara?

You could also try lightly powdering your lashes with face powder before applying it...

You could try buying two different brands and trying them out by wearing them all day to see how you like them and how well they stay put.

I use Secret solid and it is the only thing that works for me. When I'm going to be wearing a dark sleeveless top, this is what I do:
Put on the top. Stick loo paper in the bottom of each sleeve to protect the top from the Secret. Apply the Secret, and walk around for a couple minutes with my arms up to let it dry completely. Once I'm sure it's dry, I pat each underarm with the loo paper, just to make sure, and voila! I've found that if I really let it dry before I put my arms down it doesn't transfer onto my clothes.

I really like mitchum clear unsecented rollon in the green box. My fiance and I both use it. For masacra I like Loreal define-a-lash because it looks natural and never clumps. For your wedding I'd get waterproof.

For mascara, you need the kind that forms a tube around your lashes - these don't leave the residue under your eye. I really like Clinique's Lash Power or Blinc brand mascara. I find Clinique goes on a little more light and natural because of the small brush, while Blinc has a bigger brush and goes on a little heavier - just different looks. Neither are truly waterproof - they come off with a combination of warm water and gently pulling on your lashes to pull off the tubes. They generally won't come off with just a few tears as long as you don't rub your eyes (because they need the combo of rubbing and water) and they never ever rub off under your eyes because they aren't oil based (like waterproof mascaras are). They're fantastic.

If you have issues with mascaras rubbing off under your eye, never get waterproof mascara because they are oil based (hence waterproof) and you will probably always have that problem.

Oooh I never knew this, Elrohwen! Good to know...

Yeah, I can't tell you how many waterproof mascaras I went through before I figured out that I just can't wear them, because they'll always smear. The tube-type ones even stay on while swimming, as long as you're really careful not to touch your eyes.

The makeup artist I went to for my wedding said she hates waterproof and never uses it unless a bride insists because they so often smear.

For deodorant, the Dove clear works well for me. I also use deodorant crystals -- I think Secret is mass-marketing one now? No residue at all, and no "fragrance"! I think to some extend the different formulas work differently for each of us, so be sure to give your deodorant a trial run before the big day!

I also use L'Oreal's Double Extend Beauty Tubes mascara, another tube-type option. It's readily available and I think under $12. Absolutely no raccoon eye problems with this mascara (and that used to be a big problem for me!). However, my experience is that the tubes can get to be a mess by the end of very long day, especially in hot weather. Also they don't hold up well to crying or anything that involves fussing with the lashes -- they may not come off easily, but they will clump together. I use the Double Extend waterproof on hard wear days - another option to consider.

Before the wedding use the new deodorant you decide on getting. I used Mitchum once and after a few days got a terrible reaction that took almost 2 weeks to clear up.

Now, my DD uses Secret Flawless Finish and loves it because it keeps her dry and no white marks.

As for the mascara, waterproof is the way to go. Go to a department store and ask the various cosmetic vendors for samples. I get all my mascara for travel this way.

I would suggest that you don't put mascara on your bottom lashes to avoid the Alice Cooper look, I like Clinique's lash doubling mascara.

VRBeauty, I don't have any of those issues with either Clinique or Blinc even if I exercise in them - they look perfect and I don't have a hint of mascara on my skin even after sweating or swimming (and that's after already wearing the mascara for 10 hours at work). You might want to try one of these brands instead, though they're a little pricier, I think it's definitely worth it.

Elrohwen -- thanks -- I just might do that! I'll be vacationing in a very hot climate soon (I know, why???) and the clinique option might be just what I need!

This is good advice!! Mitchum worked well for me too. I've really been looking for a good mascara lately too but was hesitant to try the tubes form.

Elrowhen-- I was always afraid to try the mascaras you mentions because of how you have to take them off. I dont want the rubbing to pull off my real lashes... do you ever have that happen when pulling the tubes off?

Dawnabee, you really don't have to pull hard at all, so I never pull out any real lashes. I just close my eyes, put my fingers on my eyes, then rub downwards. i'll do that a couple times, then I'll take my lashes between my index and thumb and pull lightly until everything is off, but I don't actually tug. As long as you rinse your face in between rubbing your lashes so that you keep things wet enough (this is especially easy in the shower) it's really easy. I actually find that I end up scrubbing my lashes a lot more with waterproof mascaras, trying to get my facewash in there to wash it all off.

I love Mitchum also!

Personally, I love Physicians Formula mascara...works wonders.

Yup, that's what I was going to suggest also. I *love* Clinique's Lash Doubling Mascara.

What I do to insure that I don't get a black halo under my eyes is to put on my foundation and under eye concealer, then my eye make-up and mascara, then when you're totally done applying your mascara and have done the inevitable little clean up with a Q-tip, then lightly apply something like Clinique's Champagne colored eye shadow under your lower lashes (which for me is skin colored). I do this every day and I never get any black under my eyes because there's nothing for the mascara to stick to.

The nice thing about Lash Doubling is that it comes off with just soap and water. (I use Clinique's Mild facial soap).

Wow!!! Thank you everyone for your suggestions!!!! Really, I totally appreciate it!!!

I actually have another question for you guys! I may start another thread if I need to but since I have all this great feedback from you girls, I figured I'd ask. I am a bridesmaid in the wedding. Again, dark purple dress! I am 31. Pretty fashionable mom I think! I want to get some new makeup for the wedding! I'm thinking maybe a smokey eye, light colored nude/pink lip. Which makeup counter would you recommend? I am usually a MAC/Benefit girl but I am wondering if Clinique, Chanel, or Bobbi Brown might be better for a special occasion look. What do you guys think???

Septsparkle, thanks so much! so is the womens mitchum an invisible gel? Is that what I should look for? what is the name of yours? so it leaves no residue and you smell great? That is what I need!!

Les12, I think I am going to order some blinc! Is it real hard to take off?

CJ, I think I am going to try a couple and see what works best! I don't want the dark circles in pics for the wedding you know? I have tried waterproof but is smears underneath my eye because my skin is oily. What a pain!!!

Haven, you are so funny!!! LOL!! I am a Secret solid girl too and if all else fails I will try your method!!!!

Kelpie, so is the roll on a mens deodorant? What should I look for? Does it burn at all when you put it on?

Elrohwen, great info!!! Would you recommend the Clinique lash power or the blinc for me? Or should I just try both! I am a stay at home mom and don't wear mascara tons but I'd like to consider myself a fashionable mom and I do wear makeup but I almost wonder if the blinc might be too much for daily wear. Let me know what you think. Are they both tube mascara?

VRBeauty, what are the deodorant crystals? I've never heard of those!

Soocool, which mitchum gave you a bad reaction? I too have sensitive skin so I don't want to go crazy trying a million different ones you know? I'll end up with a rash, but no white residue!!! Perfect!

Scorpioanne, great advice! Sounds like a good plan!

Dawnabee, glad to hear Mitchum worked for you too! My husband wears mitchum and he loves it! I never realized they made a womens one! Does the gel just dry or does it stay wet feeling under your arms? I hate that wet feeling so I am hoping it dries!

Rhubarb, thanks for chiming in! Which mitchum do you use?

Autumnnovember, I'll have to check that one out too!

Gemgirl, is the lash doubling a tube mascara too? I think I am going to visit the Clinique counter!

I have yet to find a good clear deodorant, myself.

But for mascara, I love Sephora's Atomic Volume mascara. I always get compliments on my eyelashes. And I've never had problems with it leaving darkness under my eyes.

Same for me, I find Mitchum works very well.

If I had to pick between the Clinique Lash Power and the Blinc, I'd recommend Clinique. I haven't been wearing the Blinc for long, but I've been wearing the Clinique for years, so I can really recommend it. Unless you're bawling your eyes out and rubbing them, it's not going anywhere and will definitely not give you raccoon eyes or run. Even if you do bawl your eyes out and rub them, you'll just rub off some of the mascara, but it will brush away and be gone - no unsightly smudges will be left.

I like the little brush on the Clinique because you can put two, three, or more coats on until you get the thickness you want (just make sure to put the coats on one after another, with maybe 30 seconds in between, while still wet - don't put on one, let it dry for a few minutes, put another on, etc or it can get clumpy). With Blinc, I find one coat is plenty, while I was putting on three coats of Clinique for a night out.

I also have zero issues putting mascara on the bottom lashes and having smudges (this mascara just doesn't smudge once it's dry) and I don't need to do all of that foundation/powder/eye shadow under the eye that others suggested while using this mascara. Those are good suggestions, and can't hurt, I'm just saying that you won't need such measures with a mascara like this, because it's not oil based so it won't dissolve and rub off from your skin's oils. And once it's dry, it's dry. Even if you get it wet, it will come off like a little solid tube, not smudge off like regular mascara.

Elrohwen, thanks for all of the info! I think I am going to try the Clinique one and see how it goes! I'll report back!

lizzyann, I tried the scented and unscented versions of the Mitchum and still got the rash. I think it is the amount of antiperspirant (I believe Mitchum has the greatest amount of antiperspirant than any other brand on the market) in the product that made me have a reaction.

I checked online and it seems they have a sensitive skin version of Mitchum for women. Maybe this is the one to use if you have sensitive skin to avoid a rash, just in case.

Yay! I hope you like it! It was honestly a life changing mascara for me (as life changing as a mascara can be :sun: )

Mitchum clear stick will not leave any residue.

Cover Girl Volume Exact mascara is my favorite. The regular formula is water resistant, but if there might be tears, the waterproof formula won't budge.

my favorite mascara is Dior iconic (silver tube). it is expensive but it doesn't make your lashes clumpy (although if you are looking for volume then it might not be the best choice)

Soocool, thanks for looking into that for me. I am definitely going to get the sensitive one. With my luck, I'd end up with itchy armpits the day of the wedding!

Elrohwen, I am going to try to stop by Clinique tomorrow and pick up that mascara and try it!

Vesper, another recommendation for Mitchum! I think I found a clear winner!

SLG. thanks for stopping by! I've never tried any of Dior's products. How do you like them?

If you try Mitchum and don't like it... I'd try Old Spice.

I know, I know. It is so bizarre that I wear Old Spice, especially because I am about as girly as it get. But men's deodorant is SO MUCH BETTER than any women's that I've ever tried.
