Hey all!

I will be going to New York soon in the continuation of my quest. I, of course, will be meeting with Adam at OWD to see his stones in person...maybe I will get lucky and my dream stone will show up between now and then. But, even if it doesn't, I will still get to look at lots of old cuts and get a better idea of what "style" I like.

So, where else should I go for inspiration and education. I also want to solidify the style setting I want.

I am thinking I would also visit ERD for setting stuff. Should I make an appointment or do you just drop in? I know they are in the same building as OWD but do they have a storefront?

What about Leon, DBL, IDJ, etc. Can you visit these "stores" and see their work or do you have to make appointments?

Thanks in advance!

How exciting for you! From what I understand, you need to make appointments to visit Steven Kirsch and Leon Mege. I don't know anout the other jewelers.

I've met w DBL and just let them know when approx to expect us on a specific day. Email David and he'd be happy to meet w you! IDJ I've just dropped in at their booth and there is ALWAYS someone there to help. You may also want to go to Leigh Jay Nacht as well. I set that one up in advance. Www.antiqueengagementrings.com..

Have fun!

Thanks Enerchi and acinom!

I don't know why I'm having a hard time visualizing what these vendors places are like? An office? A showroom?

I would phone them all and find out, I know that Leon and Steven you definitely have to make appointments. Looking at as much bling as possible will really help you I think!!!! Might be worth checking out GOG while you are there as well ask everyone else the best way to get there.

Finger crossed you see something you love at Adams!!!!

Thanks! I may try to squeeze GOG in too! It will definitely be a blingfest! I hope to figure out:
1. Whether I prefer OECs or antique cushions.
2. What faceting I prefer in that cut.
3. What kind of setting I need to satisfy my finger coverage requirements.

I may not come home with "the" stone but I will get a sparkly education.

I am excited for you!!!! Some of the antique styles with octagonal bezels or cutout metalwork and/or small diamond sidestones and halos give massive finger coverage!!!! Who knows what you might come home with. I am constantly surprised by what I think will look great often looks meah on the hand and then I pick up something else that is pretty and put it on it is like holy bleepers that is amazing.

I also don't think many of us (that are indecisive and fussy) know what we love in a stone until we see a whole bucketload and get a feel for what visually again is either yep loving that one or yeah thats pretty but its not as nice as x or y.

DBL - office
LJN - show room upstairs in an office building
IDJ - booth in one of the "diamond malls" on 47th street

Those are the only one's I've been to.

Make appointments with everyone, so the vendors have time set aside just for you, and can prepare stones for you to look at. Good luck, and I'm so jealous of your trip!

I'd spend time and OWD and GOG to just look at a lot of diamonds (and GOG will have Beverley K and Tacori settings you can look at for design ideas). I'd go to Steven Kirsch and ERD for setting ideas. And hopefully they both have a photo album of their work as they won't have many there for you to see. Greenwich Jewelers would be maybe highest on my list to visit as they have Single Stone, Bev K, and a few Van Craeynest. These are really all I would go to, personally, if looking for old cuts and settings for old cuts. And do not plan on any of these for a Saturday except Good Old Gold and Greenwich as they are the only ones that I am sure of are open on Saturday. And yes, I would make appointments with all but maybe Greenwich as you'd just be going in to browse at settings.

When are you going? A few of us are thinking about coming this fall, too!
