my fiancee and i need to book our honeymoon soon.. im looking for suggestions from you guys for places that you recommend or may have been to..

critera
2,000 or under +/- a few hundred
airfare included (we are flying out of preferrably IAD, but can look into DCA and BWI)
Preferrably all-inclusive
tropical destination
5-7 nights
needs to be a good resort with amenities close to beach

thanks!

What time of year are you planning on going? What are your priorities: quality of food, variety of activities, nightlife, seclusion...?

Personally I would talk to a travel agent. They know the good deals, the good resorts, and most importantly they are very on top of the costs of all of the above...

sorry!

the dates!!
2/9 - 2/14 5 nights
2/9 - 2/15 6 nights
2/9 - 2/16 7 nights

food, and beauty/scenery are important to us.. seclusion.. we do want to go somehwere that has a dolphin swim experience.. my fiancee really wanted to do that on our honeymoon.

I did a little bit of preliminary searching for you. If you don''t want to contact a travel agent, look around at Cheap Caribbean. For example: five days at the all-inclusive Majestic Colonial Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, with airfare from DCA, would be $2322.34. My second cousin had her honeymoon recently at an all-inclusive in the Dominican Republic, and she hasn''t stopped raving about it.

It looks like Sandals is running a special offer right now...you can type in your dates and search what the prices would be at a particular resort. I randomly checked two for your dates--the Dunn''s River and the Whitehouse--and both were just a little over 2,000 for 5 days, including airfare. I have never been to a Sandals so I have no idea what they are like, but I saw the sale and thought I would let you know!

On our honeymoon we went through a travel agent (and she went through Gogo travel) and went to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Rep.

We stayed at Sun Village Resort and Spa (All inclusive) They have like 5 restaurants, 7 bars, they are directly on the beach, they have all kinds of tours (we went waterfall climbing, zip lining, white water rafting, scuba diving...) We upgraded our room to a superior room because it had a king size bed. They delivered fresh fruit to our room every day. They left flowers and champagne on the bed when we arrived. They have 5 pools.

We paid just under $2000 for for both of us including airfare. We stayed for 7 nights 8 days.

I loved it. The people in the dominican republic were the nicest, most helpful people in the world. We didn''t need to leave the resort because there was so much to do. Activities all day long, movies and dancing at night. But people bought us excursions as wedding gifts and we were thrilled with all the stuff there was to do. Puerto plata has the tallest mountain in the Carribean. It''s so beautiful.

Wow, I just looked at the Sandals website again and the airfare wasn''t included in the totals I looked at (sorry!)

please recommend places.. tropical destinations that may be cheaper then others..

are there places in cancun that you all recommend that arent too expensive?

also for the dominican republic.. ive heard its not that safe if you go outside your resort is that true?

I would really suggest playing around on CheapCarribean.com . I booked a trip through them last year and was quite pleased with them. I was unsure about a few things and actually called them and booked through the phone rather than over the internet and the customer service was very good. The associate I spoke with was very helpful and helped me narrow down my options.

In our case we ended up in Puerto Rico (I hadn''t gotten around to renewing my passport with my married name so we were somewhat limited in where we could go... but we loved P.R and had a great time). P.R. doesn''t have any all inclusive options but we were able to do/ eat/ drink all that we wanted for a total of around $2200 (including airfare and 4 nights at the resort). We were celebrating our belated honeymoon 7 months after our wedding and the associate at Cheap Carribean made sure the resort was aware that it was our "honeymoon" and so we were still able to get the "special treatment" that all honeymooning couples were given.

My husband and I are planning a 2 year anniversary trip sometime this spring (anniversary in in March) and our budget is around $2,000 (but we''ll increase that if we need to.. .we''re thinking this will be our last big vacation before we start a family) so I''m following you''re thread to see what you end up with.

I''ve heard the "unsafe is you leave the resort" for a lot of Carribean destinations but I think that as long as you stay on the resort (or take organized tours off the resort) you''ll be fine. There are very few places (if any) that you can travel that are totally safe.... the key is to be aware of what the dangers are and to do your best to avoid bad situations.

But seriously... check out Cheap Carribean and select a few options... then give them a call to see how they can help you narrow your choices. I will be using them again when it''s time to book our next trip.

I ditto (or thritto?) the travel agent recommendations.

I can run a search on Expedia for you. Where are you leaving from??

As for DR--its true to an extent. Like visiting any other place, you have to be aware of your surroundings. Don''t leave purses on the tables while you take pictures, don''t flash jewelry (I would highly recommend leaving the e-ring and maybe even band at home), know where you are going ahead of time as people on the streets will notice you with a map. Only take taxis from the resort and call them to pick you up, don''t take taxis from the streets. Common sense stuff will keep you safe. Last time I went to DR with my job I stayed in the city and walked around by myself.

leaving from IAD (dulles washington) or surrounding airports if they have better deal (DCA and BWI). preferrably dulles though.

2/9 -2/14 5 nights...

thanks!

Ok here are some deals I saw on Expedia. I searched for La Romana, Dominican Republic because its very beautiful there and not as visited as Punta Cana (so a little cheaper sometimes). Note: I can''t recommend any of these hotels as I''ve never stayed in a resort at DR (I have family there) but you can do a search on traveladvisor.com. The dates are 02/09-02/15

Anyway w/ airfare included:

Catalonia Gran Dominicus $2,218
Oasis Canoa Resort All Inclusive $2,282
Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach All Inclusive $2,428

Punta Cana:
Grand Paradise Bavaro - an Amhsa Marina Resort $1950
Ocean Blue Golf & Beach Resort All Inclusive $2,144
Barcelo Bavaro Casino Hotel All Inclusive $2,230

I can''t send you the links because it doesn''t work but if you run the search on Expedia, these will come up. For both searches just put La Romana, Dominican Republic and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
