Hi All,

I have asked Wink Jones to create a Legacy inspired ring for my .70 Jubilee diamond (and my wife). Wink had his CAD people draw up two designs, one with prongs and one with a bezel. In either case, I will have the diamond set quite low in the setting (just above the girdle on the diamond).
Overall I am quite pleased with the design, it will be in 14kt white gold, and will have .70ctw in side diamonds with millgrain around the perimeter and down the shank. It is a surprise for our 10 year anniversary.
Please take a look at the CAD''s, and give me any feedback you have (good or bad - I can take it)!

Thanks!

And the one with prongs.

Hi, for this style ring I love the diamond bezel set with the bezel milgrained. I would ask for the diamond to be set lower with only a small part of the bezel showing. I prefer a fine bezel though. Good luck and congratulations!

If you end up going with prongs, I''d do single prongs - doubles are too much confusion for the eye.

I like the ring with no prongs. It''s less busy/bulky looking.

What a sweet surprise for your wife!

I prefer the look of the ring with the bezel - again, set as low as possible so there is a minimum of bezel metal showing. Either way, though, will be stunning. My more immediate concern is the surprise diamonds on either side. From the cads, it appears as though these will stick out quite far, and IMHO completely detracts from the look of the ring. They almost appear to be frankenstein bolts, if you know what I mean! I would ask wink if this is how they will really look (and not just a trick of the cad). If so, I would have him make them much "shorter" or even remove them completely...

I vote prongs; The bezel looks a bit bulky in the CADs above

i vote for no prong

...but my vote might be a little biased since i have a VERY similar setting for my asscher and i have it bezel set not prong set into my halo, i really like the security that the bezel option offers and im uber clumsy and accidentally hit my hand on things alot (especially when i walk, i dont know why) and so having my stone bezel set (which offers the lowness i liked too ) made me feel much more secure that i wont ruin something so beautiful that my FF gave me.

For this ring, I love the bezel look myself.

Another vote for bezel.

i vote bezel

but i would make it more delicate, not so thick.

I second this and say prongs.

BEZEL. Tiffany's version is bezel set and who can argue with them?

ETA: The surprise diamond seems like its sticking out very far in your CADS ... especially the profile view. Does your wife plan to wear a wedding band flush against this ring? If so you might want to see if they can make that design element less prominent.

Another vote for bezel; no prongs

My vote is for single prongs. You''ll see all of the stone that way, from edge to edge. The bezel hides a tiny amount of the perimeter of the diamond.

In the CADS he attached, the bezel looks too thick to me and so I thing the prong setting shows off the diamond more. But both are beautiful. I would want the diamond not set TOO low; you want "the bulge" flush with the bezel. But generally, I prefer bezels if they are super thin. Can they make that bezel a lot thinner? Otherwise, I would go with the prongs. Either way will be beautiful.

ditto on both points.

I vote for very dainty claw prongs.
Bezels can be hard to clean thoroughly & make the stone look slightly smaller, imho.
I don''t like the look of tons of metal around the stone.

I love the bezel set, I think the prongs look out of place in the second picture....and as far as honest opinion, if you REALLLLY want honest...I''m not a big fan of how spaced out the diamonds are. I think there''s a bit too much metal showing as well. But I love the design of the band and it will be a beautiful ring no matter how it turns ouit!

What a wonderful surprise! I like it better with the bezel.....

Thanks for your honest opinion. I asked Wink about that very same point, and he assured me that the wide spacing of the side diamonds was a CAD thing, and that the finished product wouldn''t look as spread out!

Good observation though!

Bezel! I once had a ring similar to yours (with prongs) and I sold it as I wish I had gone bezel... It was set low too... Yup, bezel and the original Tiffany one is bezel :)

I showed our flyer a cad and a finished piece and when the milgrain is on the edges and the beads are pulled to set the stones they do not look all spaced out like they do in the cad. Also the bezel will be much thinner than shown. The cads are made as are the initial molds with extra metal so that it can be thinned down to the appropriate size. It is not good to start with just enough metal, as it will always become just not quite enough...

Wink

I''m horribly biased, but I also vote bezel. Perhaps add a small bevel to the bezel to give it some interest, and not look like one large chunk of metal.

Whatever you choose, it will be lovely, I''m sure! Love the Jubs!

Hi Wink, glad to hear the impending changes. It has potential to be one gorgeous ring and I''m sure it will be.

Another bezel vote!

my er is very very similar to the ring you are considering, just check out my avatar pic. i went for a fairly thin bezel with milgraining only on the outside of the halo, not on the actual bezel. i couldn''t be happier!

I vote bezel, too!

Ditto to both the bezel and the milgrain. This style of ring is currently my #1 dream ring.

I definitely prefer the bezel. Good luck!
