I''m considering the purchase of the following diamond. One thing I''ve noticed as I look at other stones very close to 1.12ct is that they have a larger heigth measurement greater than the 4.10 of this diamond, but they also have more spread. Does this mean that there is excess weight in this diamonds girdle? Or could it be that this stone has a steeper crown and smaller table than them so more weight is above the girdle?

Any opinions of these diamonds would be appreciated. Thanks

While I'd love to see an optical analysis done on the 2 stones for comparison, the safer bet between the 2 is the first stone.

There are definately several things to consider.

While the first stone does look better on paper,
an optical analysis would be advised to make certain
that this stone does measure up to its stats.

Remember that the angles provided are only the averages.
The varience between these averages can play an important
role in the visually aesthetic appeal of each diamond.

For example;

The octoganal surface of the table facet naturally
has eight sides, and when measuring both adjacent distances between each table length, you will have
4 different measurements just for the table alone.

This can be some rather complicated stuff, and this is what makes it difficult to provide a truly accurate
answer for such a complexed issue.

That is why the opinion of an expert can be
an invaluable asset to your search.

And an amen to that Kirk. I don't drop a dime until I see results of optical analysis. Hope things are going well for you up there in the big C.

What specifically do you mean by optical analysis?

If I get a Sarin Brilliant Eye Report and an OGI Megascope report, what else would you suggest? These two only seem to report information about angles, percentages, symmetry, etc. They seem to be useful to determine how accurate the grading report for the diamond is.

Would you suggest a GemEx Brilliancescope report or something else?

It seems like HCA and DiamCalc are just theoretical grading of the cut. Besides my 'eye' what is the best optical analysis tool?

Could someone run the numbers for this diamond through DiamCalc?

In my opinion, the best "hands on" tool you can use to assess light return/leakage, symmetry and contrast is the IdealScope.

A $25 investment, it is the "great equalizer" in helping the layperson evaluate cut. Toss in another $5 for the "calibration cz" and you have an idea of what kind of image you're looking for.

Read the IdealScope info on the menu at the top of your screen for more info.
