Hi everyone,

I'm helping my dad pick out a pear shaped diamond for my mom. He was not a believer of buying online but after seeing you guys help me pick out a gorgeous diamond for my wife, he now feels safer. That said, unfortunately I don't know how to pick out pear shaped diamonds. I did a search and saw recommendations on getting ASET images first. Here is what I'm looking for:
  • Budget: ~$2000 for just diamond
  • Looking for maximum sparkle
  • Must be from James Allen since he likes the pendant there
  • Mom currently has a round brilliant as a pendant. I measured it to be around 5x5mm. He wants it to be bigger.

What stats should we be looking for anyways to determine performance? We originally prioritized clarity and thus gave him a list of clean looking ones to choose from and he decided on this one:

Then I thought maybe we should look for EX Polish and Symmetry ratings since he wants the most sparkle and we ended up with these options:

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/pear-cut/0.54-carat-d-color-vs2-clarity-sku-230015

If someone can please give some suggestions as to which one of these is the sparkliest or how I should go about finding the sparkliest one within budget, that would be awesome!

Thanks so much! :)

pears arent as easy as rounds. And a EX symm and pol wont be the thing that brings the sparkle.

I would not go under a G if you can help it, H if its got a lot of flour. pears show a lot more color.... i think that D .5 you posted had potential.

these seem like they might have good sparkle, has some potential but im not sure

OK...two thoughts. Neither of them is what you asked for. But other posters will help you with what you have asked, staying within the parameters you have set, if these thoughts do not resonate with you.

1) Whiteflash makes a pendant that is unique. It was designed by Irina, the wife of the former owner (and founder) of Pricescope, Leonid. It is a really beautiful and-unique-pendant. There have been many Pricescope threads about this pendant in the past. I would urge you to take a look at this. Unless you have one custom made, I believe the largest stone that will fit in it is .75 carat, but that fits your father's size requirement. Whiteflash offers a huge variety of stones at great prices, but also offers their super-ideal cut ACA (A Cut Above) stones. It is called the bellerina pendant, named after the Pricescope poster, belle.

2)Jonathan of Good Old Gold helped me pick a perfect pair of pear shaped diamond (.5 carat each) to use as side stones in a red spinel ring I was making. He could help you find beautiful pears if you decide you want gorgeous pears.
