Any ideas? I'm looking at Dell xps 13 inch, 16GB ram, glass touchpad. I want something that starts up fast. I don't do Apple. This current laptop has a touchpad issue that raises my blood pressure, so that's something that I want to avoid (even set on high sensitivity, it balks, no matter who is using it, always has). I don't want a touch screen.

Second question is what anti-virus software?

And, now I'm looking at Macs, lol. This is my process I guess. Find bad reviews on everything else and realize that my daughter and husband love their Macs, and I just have to learn a new way of doing things. So, we'll see where this takes me.

I've had a Macbook Pro for years and have been very happy with it, Apple has it's quirks but you can make an appointment with the genius bar and they will show you all the ins and outs. We bought ours during Black Friday sales from Best Buy but really I don't think you can go wrong with a Macbook.

I use a Lenovo T480 for work and it’s good for the office applications and some specialised apps I use it for. Some of my devs were using the same to do development but have since upgraded. The battery life is great. It can take a SIM card to you can connect away from Wifi. It does have a touch screen and is reasonably large but not ridiculously heavy.
At home I use an 2013 MacBook Air. The battery life is a bit rubbish now but the rest of it is going strong and I’m really happy with it. I use an iPad if I want portability but the laptop is great for at home use.

I was resistant to getting any Apple products but once I did I never looked back. I find them easier to use and superior for what I need. So the question is would it suit your needs? I LOVE my MacBook Air (so light) and MacBook Pro. Great laptops for someone like me. Not computer or tech savvy. And Apple has great tech support too.

I have a 2015 Macbook Pro that I use at home and a 2018 MacBook (upgraded specs) that I use for Grad school. I was also considering the Dell XPS before I bought the MacBook but then I read the reviews for the possible issues and the horrible customer service.

Which cpu?

For AV if you willing to pay for it I would go with Eset nod32 https://www.eset.com/us/home/antivirus/

I'm cheap so I just run avast free but it is really spammy these days and has gone down hill.

I went with the tiny 13 inch Macbook Pro. It's well overpowered for me, but it does fit with how I use a laptop. I accidentally got on the US Apple site and :cry2:! They are all $600 or more LESS than what we pay in Canada. I didn't expect not to have a USB port. I had to order an adapter for the Thunderbolt port. Too high tech, but general use won't be too bad. My laptops usually last me for more than 5 years. I wonder how things will have changed then.:P2

I used to be Dells, and opted for a HP Pavilion in 2018 after being given a HP EliteBook X360 for work in 2017.

When it is time to upgrade again, possibly next year, I would choose another HP, as they are solidly built with good specifications.
