Hello... I am usually a lurker but felt compelled to ask for some prayers and good thoughts for a dear friend of mine. Yesterday she gave birth at 27 weeks and has developed severe sepsis (bacteria infection in the blood). Baby is doing exceptionally well and breathing on his own but my friend is not. Her blood pressure has not stabilized and she is on the verge of kidney failure. Her lungs are continuing to fill with fluid and there is concern for pneumonia.
I strongly believe in the power of prayer. Please think good thought and prayers for her.
This is a very scary time...she hasn''t even been able to meet her new little boy.
I''ll update as I know more.

So sorry to hear about your friend... she is in my thoughts and prayers.

Prayers outgoing.

Thank you for posting this and I truly hope your friend recovers soon so that she can meet her little boy and that he continues to thrive.

Thanks Steal & Ryan for the well wishes. No updates yet... she just saw a lung specialist and he says lungs are looking good which is a good sign. Doctors are trying to figure out a game plan. Just saw a pic of Parker--he is 2 lbs 3 oz and 14 1/4 inches long! He is quite the fighter and doing so well!

Thanks again. This is a very hard time for the family. My friend is awake and coherent and knows what she is up against. If the fluid continues to pour into her lungs as it has they will have to sedate her and put her on incubation. She is currently on a ventilator.

It must be so hard for her, I hate that she has not got to see her little one. 2 pounds, wow he must be so beautifully tiny (and long).

So have they ruled out pneumonia?

He is really adorable... the doctors say he is the most active 27 week old they have seen. Little Parker is a fighter... I am thinking he learned it from his mama.

As far as I know she is not in the clear for pneumonia; I believe the lung specialist was checking to make sure there were no blood clots and what the damage was. I haven''t heard any updates yet other than her heart is much better than yesterday (heart rate was beating off the charts until late last night).
Let''s keep praying and sending good thoughts her and Parker''s way. She said she is most frustrated that she hasn''t been able to meet him yet. I do know they just went in and pumped her for some milk for him...which confused me because of the sepsis--I figured they would have to worry about that?

Anyways, thanks for checking in. Means alot to me!

Keeping your friend and her baby boy in my thoughts and prayers...

I''m sorry to hear about this, Elisabeth. I''m sending good thoughts your friend''s way.

Hope she makes a quick recovery and her son continues to thrive. Do they know where the infection is from?

Hope she makes a quick recovery and her son continues to thrive. Do they know where the infection is from?

A week or so ago she began having pretty serious contractions they decided to begin giving shots of steroids to speed up Parker''s lung development if he decided to come early. Doctors are fairly positive the steroids caused the sepsis... and the sepsis is what caused the labor to happen at 27 wks.

Thanks for the encouragement and dust/prayers!

Sending tons of prayers her way. I pray the doctors get her infections under control, etc... So glad her baby is thriving....

Just received an update: Friend is now off the ventilator and doing fantastic! She is way ahead of where the doctors thought she would be... her vitals are now stable. The cause for concern is still the fluid in her lungs and pneumonia. She is not totally out of the woods but this is quite a big (and positive!) development!
This is such wonderful news. Thank you all for the support and well wishes. It truly means so much.
I will continue to update as I hear more...

I''m glad to hear things are better.

I'm praying for a quick and complete recovery, elisabeth.

I''ll be praying for your friend and her son.

Thoughts and prayers outgoing. It sounds like she''s already doing better! I really hope she''s able to meet her little guy soon. I''ll make sure to give my Parker extra hugs and kisses tonight. Sometimes we needed to be reminded how lucky we really are.

Thanks for the updates!

I have an update! Things are progressing and my friend is fighting hard. Just found out she is still not out of the woods yet and is still incredibly weak but the fluid in her lungs is slowly tapering off. They have stopped the meds for blood pressure and turned the oxygen down. This is really great progress and I am so thrilled and over-joyed (along with a gamete of other emotions) for this turn around.

Baby Parker is continuing to thrive.

Thanks you everyone for your kind words and well wishes. It really means so much

Hopefully more positive updates coming soon!

More prayers for your friend and her tiny boy. I was nearly in tears when I read your initial post, I''m so glad to hear that she is already starting to recover. I can''t imagine not even being able to see and hold her baby, but when she finally does, how sweet it will be.

It''s been really hard but I definitely believe that her being awake and knowing what she needs to fight for is just making her fight harder!
She is only 23 and is fighting really hard to overcome this infection.

He is so sweet. Ill try and upload a pic of the baby later--he really looks wonderful for being born nearly 3 months early.

That''s fantastic. I''m so happy for her. I''ll continue keeping her and her little boy in my prayers!!

Just wanted to post one more update before bed. Nothing new to report; my friend is content and resting. They won't know anything new until tomorrow morning when she gets another chest x-ray. I will post what I find out tomorrow evening probably.

Thanks again, everyone. I know that all your prayers/dust and good thoughts toward this family are helping.

Here is to hoping this night is very uneventful!

Praying and rooting for your friend... (hugs)

Tons of prayers and love outgoing to your friend and her family. Mama and baby sound like fighters and hopefully they''ll pull through this quickly. I really hope your friend is able to meet her son soon.

Your friend will be in my thoughts... baby too :)

ETA - I'm glad she's doing better, I will keep them both in my thoughts - and i think it's fantastic they pumped for the baby!!!

They''re both in my thoughts!

I haven''t posted but I''ve been keeping up. I''m so glad she is recovering, and I hope she gets to meet her tiny one soon! How is her husband?

Oh my, both will be in my thoughts and prayers. I could not hold my baby boy for over 12 hrs because of complications with him and it''s the most heartbreaking thing in the world.
