Hello, first timer, about to take the big plunge. I am in need of advice.

I am going through two "contacts" (friends of friends in the business, etc.) to procure a diamond. I have a GIA certified diamond from each. I am not expecting "this one is the best deal" response, but rather, I want to know if both are acting in good faith and if their prices seem reasonable.

Alternatively, if one seems like a significantly better deal, please let me know and I would work with that person exclusively. Also, once we get into table/depth, medium, thin, etc., I am completely lost - so any advice on the last two characterstics I've listed below is greatly appreciated.

I like one of two diamonds below a great deal more than the other, but I just need this last little bit of help to get accross the finish line and put down a deposit.

Diamond 1:
Oval Brillitant
1.75 carat
G
SI1
Polish/ Symetry: Good/Good
No Flourescence
Table/Depth 70%/58.7%
medium/very thick (faceted)
Price: $16,225

Diamond 2:
Oval Brillitant
1.75 carat
H
VS2
Polish/ Symetry: Good/Good
No Flourescence
Table/Depth 61%/59.9%
very thin/slightly thick (faceted)
Price: $15,000

Thank you in advance.

Honestly you can't judge a fancy shape by the numbers - they need to be seen. They could have all the "right" angles and % but still have a massive bowtie, etc.

"friend of a friend" deals... usually don't end up being "deals" at all. As a wise PS'r once said, "a deal is only a deal if you are getting exactly what you want".

Have you looked online at all? Take a peek over at James Allen for starters - they have videos of tons of stones so you CAN see exactly what you are getting.

Thank you for the great advice. I believe at least one is a legitamate "friends of friend," but the best way to tell is if they are offering similiar deals relative to one another. But I understand it is difficult based on numbers only - regardles, thanks for your input.

I have looked at James Allen, etc. extensively... lots of research... stressful decision...
