What do you think of this diamond from ERD? Mark says it's eye clean and very nice.

2.05 ct.
Color: H
Clarity: VS2
Polish: EX
Symmetry: VG
Depth: 68.2%
Table: 61%

So we've apparently got FishInSea, FishInPercolator... where's FishInOven?

Love the outline, wondering how far you have to tilt to make those contrasting steps on the longer sides turn on/off (return light/obstruct/leak)? Can't tell from the still - you'd need a video, or Mark's opinion.

FishInOven! Why didn't I think of that:) Thanks for the response. I just asked Mark for a video. Would be nice for my gf to show off the diamond after I propose.

I am a tad bit hesitant with the H color but I think it will be alright don't you?

A video to show her would be lovely - you can point out all the nifty details that make *her* stone even more special :bigsmile:

An H will be perfectly fine! No-one looking at it will ever think anything other than "white diamond". Ever.
 
Is an Idealscope image needed or will ASET do?
 
ASET gives you more info than an IS, so no IS necessary.
Out of curiosity can ERD do ASET videos?
 
I wonder how the windmills are on this one? ASET colors are a mixture of green and black.
 
I know it's a VS2, but are you sure it's eye-clean?

Mark at ERD said it was eye-clean.
 
ERds video camera is having issues. Here's another angle. Any other thoughts based on this angle?

nice. I suggest you have it sent to you before you commit fully with a setting (I assume you are getting a setting through ERD as well.)
 
Not sure what to do about a setting yet. I may do as you suggest, get the diamond sent to me and check it out before getting it set. If I do that and wanted a setting from ERD should I just send it back to them or have them send me the setting and get it set locally?
 
no, have ERD do it. Ask for a shipping label, since you will return it back to them (either to finalize with setting or not) in any case.
 
I don't know enough about emerald cuts to weigh in, but I thinks it's very elegant and an awesome size. Your lady is very lucky.

Will do. They are working on a video too so I'll post that once I get it. Thanks nowicanseethemoon, she'd be happy with a lot less but I want to spoil her with this one.

I am sorry to tell you that PS does not have a PM function but I am sure she'll be along some time today. I viewed the video and think it's a lovely EC. The dark background did throw me off a little but so I had to account for that. I would not set it locally but have ERD take care of it. They can assist you with shipping the EC back to them.
 
Thanks guys, probably going with this one unless anyone sees anything wrong or knows if something better. Ill get it sent to me before setting it to make sure it's eye clean. What do you think about settings? I think i want a micro pave setting or maybe something antiquey looking but can't decide if I want a halo or not. I know she wants the wedding band to match the ER.

My budget is pretty limited on the setting. It's all going to the diamond:)
 
I received the diamond and it appears eye clean. There does appear to be a black crystal when viewed under a microscope. Is this an issue I should be concerned with?
 
If it's eye clean, and therefore mind clean, then it's ok. But if the knowledge that there is a crystal there bothers you mentally (it is a VS not an IF), then..... :?

I guess what I'm asking is if a black crystal is a worse type of inclusion than others when it can only be viewed under a microscope? I see some stones with similar or better specs (table and depth) to this one but in the VVS2 range for about the same price on Blue Nile but I'm not convinced they are cut well and have no way of getting a ASET done for the forum to look at.
 
No not if it can only be seen under a scope. That said, step cuts reflect inclusions, and since they are easier to see in the first place and then get reflected all over... well, not all VS2's are eye-clean. Have you looked at JA? They have videos so you can see if the inclusions are visible. And they can do ASET's, etc.

The key question is two-fold.
1. Can you see it with the naked eye?
2. If you cannot, will that knowledge of the black crystal bother you? Alternatively, you can also use this to help you identify your stone.
 
If its eye clean, its all that matters. Otherwise, you would probably need an IF stone for it to be mind clean.
 
Finally got to see the stone in daylight and I can see the dreaded black crystal pretty easily so back to the drawing board. Mark is going to look for some other diamonds. Really considering giving the blue nile VVS2 a shot.
 
Blue Nile does not provide ASET, and you'll often get a sample image, not a picture of the actual stone, which makes it difficult to shop for an EC.

Yeah, I know. Would be a gamble. Waiting to see what else Mark at ERD can find first.
