I am currently looking for an engagement ring for my fiancee. I''ve found a diamond I like with the following specs:

AGS Certificate Information:
Round Brilliant
1.02 Carat
E Color
SI1 Clarity
Measurements: 6.53 mm X 6.58 mm X 3.95 mm
Depth: 60.30%
Table: 54%
Girlde: THN-MED
Faceted Girdle: Yes
Culet: Small
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Flourescence: N

Megascope Information:
Cut Grade = 0
6.56mm X 6.53mm X 6.59mm (avg, min, max)
3.95MM Depth 60.2% Depth Percentage
54% Table
1.2 - 1.7 Medium Girdle
33.8 degree crown angle, 15% crown percentage
.5mm very small culet
40.2 degree pavilion angle, 42.3% pavilion depth

The vendor also claims this is a H&A diamond. From some of the posts I''ve read on this site, the crown and pavilion angles aren''t necessarily ideal. Please let me know your opinions on this stone!

yeah...not crazy about that shallow angle combo.

you don''t seem too convinced either. what made you pick this one?

It is just one I am considering. I am going to view it in person on Friday. At this time I''m hoping to gather as much input on it as possible before seeing it in person. All input is greatly appreciated!

The problem with some of these shallower cuts (some not all. Demelza has a beauty) is that they can appear dark when viewing a ring at normal viewing distance. In a pendant or earrings, they will blow you away for beauty. It''s a phenomenon know as head obstruction. It''s reflecting back more strongly the shadow that is your head when you''re peeking down into a ring. You just have to see to know for sure if that will be a problem for you. If you want to know more, do a search here for head obstruction or head obfuscation (I believe). Garry H. and others have discussed this issue a bunch in the past. HTH.

When I go check out this stone tomorrow, what should I be looking for in regards to my concern about the shallow crown, etc? They claim the diamond is a H&A....is that even possible with such shallow crown and pavilion angles?
