So I have three J color 1ct emerald cut diamonds being worked up at JA (I'm so impatient - I can't wait to hear back from them!). But I need to decide on a setting. I don't want to spend too much, in case I don't like it for some reason. Here are a few options - what do you think?

I kind of like the contrast of the swoopiness of the setting with the lines of the EC

Pave band - either white or yellow gold - which color?

Or just a plain inexpensive solitaire for now?

I would love this one, but JA doesn't carry Ritani: (I could get the inexpensive one from JA and save for this...)

Do you have any other suggestion for settings? Thanks everyone!

I like the first one unless you want to save money for the more expensive one.

That's the one I'm leaning toward. :)

Will it be your forever setting of sorts, are you pretty sure or undecided? Your answer will guide you either towards a specific design or the usual 4 prong knife edge standard setting as a temporary wearable ring.

I heard back from JA! Woohoo!

Option 1 came in first place, as expected, and "the gemologist found the 1.04 carat-J-VS1 to be the top performer of the three. It has very good alternating steps of brilliance (white light return) and contrast (dark areas), and it has a great amount of fire (dispersion of color) and sparkle that is well balanced and symmetrical. It faces up a true "J" in color and has a very slight warmth to it face up, faces up completely "eye clean" and has a perfect rectangular shape."

I'm excited now, as it's the one I wanted to be the winner. :)

As far as the setting goes, I really like the Ritani... but it will be a while before I can swing that. In the meantime, I want something I can live with. I had another stone in a plain solitaire, and didn't like it at all, so I'm leaning toward option #1 (the twisted shank swoopy style).

ASET below!

OK this may not be your cup of tea, but what about the first one E/W?? I think that would be amazing.

ASET looks really good! As a sort of temporary setting, the first one is good: not expensive and a step above a plain solitaire. The EW bezel is very pretty to and will be good to hide any tint from the side view.

Woohoo! Order is placed - and I decided to go with the first setting, the twisted split shank. Thanks for your input everyone, and I'll post pics when I get it!

NS or EW? Also, what color gold??

N/S (boring I know...) in 14k WG.

And I told them to make the prongs pretty and dainty, not like a glob of metal. :)

Oh cool! I had to ask for fancy prongs, and they did a great job.

Yup, JA can make very pretty prongs upon request. No stubby globs!
