Need opinions of a potential stone and setting

I am planning to propose to my girlfriend, but first I need to buy a ring. Who knew?

I'm having fun looking at stones and learning about what make a diamond amazing. But all things need to come to an end. I'm looking at stones and rings on James Allen.

I'm looking only at excellent cut stones, better than a G color, and without inclusions I can see with the naked eye. That puts me in the D-E-F and VS2 or better range. I'm looking at a comfort fit solitaire setting.

What do you think of this combination?

Hi and welcome!

James Allen will review 3 diamonds and provide idealscope images-these tell you more about the light return and are valuable in assessing cut. So, I would pick 2 additional diamonds for review.

here are some that could be good candidates...

Has she expressed any type of preference for a setting. The one you picked is nice but I'm not a huge fan of how the prongs stick out. A wedding band won't fit flush. My original e-ring was like that and I ended up having to get a notched band and soldered the rings together. It was nice but I ended up always craving a reset, which I eventually did. Anyway, it's a classic setting and if that is what she wants, it will be perfect.

Thank you for the replies so far. Great input.
As far as rings go, are you more likely to completely forgo e-rings or just look around better? What do you think of these two options?

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/Platinum-Six-Prong-Knife-Edged-Ring.html 6 prongs are a plus, and it seems to be a little more delicate vs clunky. Also, what do you think of the knife edge look?

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/solitaire-ring-setting.html this one is particularly cool because of the reverse taper. How do you think that will go with a wedding band?

Thanks, your input is greatly appreciated.

I actually have a similar solitaire as the first one that you posted, mine is also from JA. The photos that they show are really magnified and it makes it look as though the prongs stick way out on the shank, and they do stick out but not by much and any wedding band that I have tried on with it has sat quite flush, so I don't think that it will be much of an issue. That said, I've had three different settings from JA and I'm not sure why but everyone one of them had prongs that I considered large and bulky. In fact this last time I asked them to file the prongs to make them appear more delicate and the fabrication department wouldn't do it and suggested that I consider the handmade setting you posted It still wasn't quite what I wanted and I knew that I was going to change settings again shortly so I didn't get it, but it may be something that you want to consider.
