Need opinions, is it a waste to buy a 0.7 carat?

Hi Folks

Bit of a strange question. So I am one of those people who when I get started on a colour of gold I will get all the basics in that gold colour (earrings, ring, bangle, necklace).

Hubby has just bought me a rose gold bangle from Whiteflash. If the bangle lives up to expectations I was also toying with the idea of buying a smallish 0.70 ct or so stone to make into a rose gold ring using one of the settings that WF have that I've fallen in love with. If the ACA melee lives up to it's hype I was going to get an ACA stone, just to see how it performs in a ring.

My question is, is this rather silly just for matching purposes? Should I just wear my white gold diamond ring with it or one of my other rose gold rings (I only have a pink zircon in RG and a sapphire with a tiny bit of RG on the setting) and not attempt to procure this random smallish diamond?

I like the idea of having a rose gold "set" and diamonds are neutral in colour whereas my pink zircon (set in rose gold) may clash with certain outfits. But then I feel like it is completely irrelevant to buy a random small diamond for the purposes of trying to be all matchy match.

Another idea I had is that I have a lovely 1ct pendant that I don't wear that much. I could take out the stone and put it in a RG setting. Hubs is against this idea as he says I'll need it for an outfit at some point and I'm just causing trouble playing around with it.

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated!
 
I'm one of those people that dont mind mixing metals (some of my jewelry is two tone also which makes it easier to mix) but, I understand
how some people want to keep all the same color of metals on at one time. If you feel more comfortable with only 1 color on at
a time then I see no problem with having another ring made. Many PSers have more than 1 e-ring so depending on what they are
doing for the day, switch it out for bigger/smaller ring.

I think its personal preference and it all depends on how you feel!
 
If I were you I would start mixing your jewelry metals some and see how it makes you feel. If it makes you feel uncomfortable and you cant get
use to it, then go for that new setting!
 
@tyty333 you are very wise! I will do just that when the RG bangle arrives!

I have quite a few two toned YG/WG bangles and necklaces and have no qualms mixing them but RG is a new adventure for me!

Lol I resisted the idea of RG for a while, thinking it would lead to more "projects"!
 
Each of the metals have their own flavor. Mix, match, no matter. To enjoy, that is the quest!

This is entirely personal taste - and feel free to call it the OCD in me - but I'm one of those people who would rather not leave the house than have uncoordinated jewelry!

I have a full set in yellow gold, rose gold, and platinum - so I totally understand your thoughts. However, having said that....

I have a Victor Canera H&A 2.54ct G SI1 solitaire in platinum. I have a 3.4 H VS1 ACA diamond in yellow gold. These rings were expensive pieces of jewelry. BUT!...my favorite ring is my ruby and diamond 5 stone ring in rose gold, for which I paid, after re-habbing and re-setting - 4k in total. So all that to say - have you thought about something other than a solitaire? Perhaps a 5 stone band? Or a three stone, which could give you more bang for your buck? I'm attaching a few photos of my fave ring, so you can see what can be achieved on a low-ish budget, while also getting something unique. And just to add - I was sitting in Victor Canera's office once, wearing this ring, while we were looking at diamonds. I also had a 3.61 I VS2 solitaire with me. The ring Victor went STRAIGHT to was the ruby and diamond. So - just a thought. Perhaps you could alternate diamonds with your husband's birth stone? This generally cuts the cost. This ring, also, is a size 8 - so it's a LOT of finger coverage achieved for not a lot of money. The setting is from 1910, but the stones are all new.

But if it *has* to be the WF soli - I say go for it. We rarely forget our first loves. :)

I have to say, tho, if you rarely wear the pendant, why not switch out the two? Set the 1ct stone in the WF setting you love, and set the .7 - or something smaller - into a pendant? There are a zillion different ways to get a substantial pendant with a smallish stone - and I'd actually call .7ct a substantial size for a pendant.

i like to have my jewelry metal match too, but having said that I also like to mix white and rose metals or yellow and white metals when I stack my rings. I also have a few pieces that are mixed yellow and white. For some reason I'm not a fan of mixing yellow and rose gold together, but that is just personal preference.
so I guess you if you feel like you must have rose, you could start out with a small stacking ring or two and mix that with your white metal when wearing the new bangle and see how you feel about that.

You have given me an idea! I would definitely keep it neutral (diamonds only) but maybe I can toy around with the idea of a cheap and cheerful RG band of some sort!

Hehe I REALLY like the twisty cable bit in the setting I posted.

I have this thing, it's very silly but even though I buy jewellery I'd like to think that I am being reasonably economical about things. Doesn't entirely make sense but I try to make all my jewellery work for me in terms of cost per wear which leads to me telling myself "Just mix your metals woman and make it work" :lol:

Another way to approach this...if you had a more rosy/pink gemstone in a white metal setting. That would allow you to "match" more with the RG and yet still wear your whiter metals. Spinel and sapphires come in some really pretty shades. I often wear gemstone as color "bridge" items in my jewelry to work with my other rings or my outfits.
 
Lovely. Or even a mixed metal option? RG and white metal....yummy. Best of both worlds.

I mix my YG with my RG set all the time and frankly when all bunched up on my finger with a YG band below it looks like the YG diamond 5-stone band matches the above RG set perfectly.

I'm 100% on board with this and I should have listed a bunch of provisos. I have a trio of bangles - silver, yellow gold, rose gold - plus a white gold and diamond accent bangle; they were made to go together and I often wear whatever combination of them I feel taken by on the day. I think if it's done intentionally, contrasting metals can look great - and i particularly think white metals and rose gold look terrific together. Rings stacked in different metals - awesome; bracelet in one metal, necklace in another - not to my taste. i think that looks disconnected, rather than contrasting, and I'm not comfortable with that. But again, this is personal, so I think @tyty333 is on the right track with this; try it and see how you feel about it.

About a decade ago I bought a three toned necklace that was made up of small necklaces in all 3 colours of gold! hehe very thankful about that decision now! I will at least have a few basic pieces to debut my bangle with! Wheeeeeeee
 
I have platinum, white gold and rose gold. I don't mix and match too much but I did buy a Bulova watch with a bit of rose gold on it for those days when I want both. I do have a Tiffany 2mm band that is 18k rose with platinum in the middle. I love watches and have quite a few. Mix and match if you like but this might help tie it together. I have a black one with rose gold as well.

I like white metal rings however I'd prefer RG watches. Wear whatever you wish, b/c there are no rules.

Can you just add a thin RG band or WG/RG 2-tone very thin band to your existing set?
 
I love mixing metals. This makes me think of my gran who always matched her purse and shoes. =)2 Of course you have to be comfortable. I like the idea of a band with stones over a small solitaire though.

I think we all have our styles. If being matchy matchy is your style, then it's not a waste Bc you know that each time you wear it, you will enjoy it. I have tons of jewelry sitting in my bank vault that I don't call a waste Bc they bring me joy when I reach for them.
