Okay. I''m going to say it. To my eye ... the irregularity and odd shapes + color make them look a bit too much like, um, droppings.
The shapes of a few of them just sent my mind down that track & I couldn''t not see it. Since you''re wavering I thought I''d tell you my honest opinion because, who knows, if *I* think it ... maybe others would think the same thing while you''re *wearing* it.Date: 12/15/2009 9:36:57 AM

Really? I know that these are not top of the line but I would never have referred to them as droppings!!Date: 12/15/2009 9:30:21 AM

I think they're lovely and I disagree with Deco, they don't look like poo.

Pearls aren''t really my thing though so maybe I''m just not used to the particular natural wonkiness!![]()
These are called baroque pearls which I'm quite fond of. These are actually quite organic-shaped. I've seen some baroque pearls which are even more "wonky", in fact quite misshapen, which this strand is not.Date: 12/15/2009 9:51:29 AM

I think Deco may just be unfamiliar with baroque pearls. In a way, her comment is a compliment since they are drop shaped Tahitians.Date: 12/15/2009 9:36:57 AM

CCN, I love baroque pearls in general and these look quite lovely. However, being quite fair-skinned myself, I personally wouldn''t go for really dark-coloured pearls. I''d rather go for peacock or silver Tahitians. But that''s just *my* personal preference. What are your mixed feelings about these pearls? Is it just the colour?

Personally, my concern woul be the color. They look like they don''t have much along the lines of overtones. It could just be the pictures and lighting though.![]()

I love the shape...but the color does seem a bit dark to me. But it depends on how much you like them and I guess how much you spent on them... if that makes sense. If they were a steal, I might keep them just for a fun strand of the odd shapes, but if you can get a more peacock one for the same price, I''d look into that.
Just my .02![]()

I don''t think they look like poo either! No worries.
ETA Yes to everything Phoenix said..
They could definately use a little more luster....but honestly, that was not what disappointed me about them. I was hoping for a better color range..... I am no pearl expert...but I do feel that I can discern between commercial quality (hence the Ebay one''s I mentioned above) and nicer quality. These are definately nicer than commercial quality but of course, not top of the line.Date: 12/15/2009 4:23:25 PM

I think what you''re seeing (or not seeing, actually) is the lack of luster in these pearls.
Dark, vibrant pearls can look fantastic on a light, pale complexion. But these pearls look flat and dull. That''s because the luster is poor.
That''s why these pearls are not ''top of the line'', like you said. Even though they are a nice size, and interesting shape, without luster they''re just commercial quality pearls.

Hi, I think the lustre is fine, but perhaps another colour will suit you better. The colour is rather dull -- look for the peacocks, aubergines and look for the orient.
When I purchase baroques, to make sure that the strand I receive is what was posted on the website, I count the number of pearls and save a picture from the vendor. When I receive the baroque pearls, I will compare what I have on hand with what''s on the picture to make sure that it is the right strand.
