I recently got burned by buying a diamond in the islands from Diamonds International. I have no diamond certificate and have been getting the runaround. I am in the process of trying to return the ring and start over. I am considering Blue Nile and was looking at this 1.16ct princess cut and wanted some opinions... (Wish I had found this site earlier!)

Price: $6,303.00

Carat weight: 1.16

Cut: Very Good

Color: G

Clarity: VS1

Depth %: 73.2%

Table %: 66%

Symmetry: Very good

Polish: Excellent

Girdle: Thick

Culet: None

Fluorescence: None

Measurements: 5.71 x 5.70 x 4.17 mm

Length/width ratio: 1.00

Who graded this?

Oh, and welcome to PS

The diamond''s info is from Blue Nile

I think she means the certificate. As in is an AGS or GIA certificate. You can post the link to the bluenile page...if that''s easier for you.

The grading is based on....?
Which Labratory?
Try to learn your lesson from your previous experience...

PS is a tremendously valuable information site..., spend the time to read and learn...., it will save you $$$$.

not smelling to good..., (just my humble opinion.)

What should I look for in a princess cut as far as depth.. table.. etc?

A reliable opinion..., preferably by one of numerous Labratories (GIA, AGS, EGL, HRD, IGI, etc, etc.)

Anyone can supply numbers, but i think you would rather get reliable numbers

Thanks for your help.. much appreciated!

Good Diamond, a nice square princess stone. I agree with JulieN that the Very Good symmetry could be improved upon (duh, obviously), but I would personally not let this put me off too much. Remember that an increase in quality will inevitably result in an increase in price. Do not commit to a purchase until you have been provided with at least a copy of the GIA report that Blue Nile say this stone has.

hope you get your money back.

Thanks! Luckily my fiance charged it with a good credit card company. They (the CC company) have already reversed the charges until my dispute is settled. I still have the ring and DI doesn''t have their money. The CC company is sending paperwork and if DI doesn''t come through with a valid certificate then I will not have a problem getting my money back. I just wish I had found this site before shopping in the first place. There is so much to look for (and so much to watch out for)!

I do love the ring I have, but I think they charged me about $1500 too much for it and I have no certificate. I have attached a pic (not a great one). It is 1.02ct., F color, VS1 clarity. The problem is that''s all I know. And after reading from this site I feel really stupid! What is the cut? depth %? table%? symmetry? polish? girdle? florescence? length/width ratio? I have no idea! What an idiot! I had it appraised at a local jeweler and they came back at almost $2000 less than what I paid. And it is my fault for not being more informed.
