Need Info about Resetting a Solitaire Ring & Info about Wedding Bands

So i was thinking about Resetting My girls Platinum diamond engagement ring from a Solitaire to a 3 Stone, the ring design is just a simple 6 prong Solitaire, i can certainly get the other 2 side loose diamonds, what would be the cost to reset a ring like that? or how does resetting work? and how long will it take for the process to finish?

About the Wedding bands question, i was just thinking about a simple Comfort ring design in 950 platinum. What are the basis of choosing a ring width for a man and a woman? is it personal preference? or whatever it maybe please share your honest opinion. Thanks ^_^

Usually it’s a whole new ring made, in platinum I’m guessing $1500 /$2,000 before diamonds. They’ll give you a “melt value” for your old setting, but you would probably get more if you sold it on Loupe Troop or similar.
Women’s ring width is normally 2.5, 3 (maybe 4) mm wide and usually you match the width of the wedding ring to the engagement ring. Depends on whether your fiancé has size 4 fingers or size 9 fingers!
Men, with larger hands might choose 4, 5 or even 6 mm wide as they are only wearing 1 ring.

Lolz, no i was just thinking about it, in case i want to do a resetting which i seriously am, i just want to know what there is to know about turning a simple Solitaire engagement ring into a 3 stone.

You would almost certainly need to get an entire new setting made and that would be best done after you have selected the diamonds. Setting price will depend on the bench as would the duration it would take.

You will need to make sure the additional diamonds match/compliment the original solitaire in terms of colour, cut, size, etc.

Have you checked with your girl to see if this is indeed her wish?

It will probably cost less and look better to have a new ring made for your stone. Or ... some people have had a custom wrap made that fits like a band next to the solitaire, but with stones on either side that hug the solitaire and make it appear to be a three stone. Let me look.
