need honest opinions of a sapphire

What you guys think about Etsy sapphires? Some seem way too cheap so probably fake?

Etsy is similar to ebay in that it is an online marketplace which has various sellers. So the quality will vary significantly depending on the listing. But there are certainly some high-end gems on there. Worth it to take a look!

beautiful, but says U.S. sales only and no returns so no go.

Too bad. I missed the US sales only. She has already dropped asking to $3750. Are you ever in NY? :mrgreen2:

that is a beautiful gem! sadly way over my budget but hopefully someone else picks that up. thanks for sharing.

What you guys think of this stone? I got it on Etsy, comes with a lab certificate as being a padparadscha from Mozambique unheated, I find the color really pretty, though more red than pink/orange, but I just find it almost looks too perfect? Any thoughts? IMG20250715220850.jpgIMG20250715220658.jpg

What kind of certificate?

I really can’t tell from photos. It does look remarkably clean but then they are very clean sapphires around.

I would trust GFCO. I have quite a few stones with both Lotus and GFCO reports. They might differ on location and colour specifics but the basics are always correct. I like getting both reports on my higher value stones so that I can feel more comfortable relying on GFCO for my less expensive stones.

I think there is a very large window. It would be easier to see if you put it between tweezers. I think you have somehow got to get your wife's opinion on stones with windows because for me, that is all I see. It ruins the entire stone for me.

Again, this is all up for interpretation, but in my opinion, that is not a padparadscha by any stretch of the imagination. Now if you like the color, that's one thing. Congrats, admire him for what he is, and enjoy! But I'm confident that none of the major institutions would certify this stone as a pad. I've seen reports from this lab around, and I don't doubt they can probably decipher one gem from another, or a synthetic from a natural, or even basic heat, with relative ease. But certain treatments? I'm less confident. This stone may very well be untreated. But it could also be beryllium diffused (they abound in this particular shade), and that becomes tricky. This is because the process can introduce coloring agents deep into the stone, making the treatment harder to detect than with older, shallower diffusion methods. More advanced gemological techniques are required, such as LIBS. Now, in all honestly, I would be more worried about this if it said "heat only," because the method does require high heat, and that should be readily detectable. In any event, judging solely by what I'm seeing in your photos, this is a brownish-reddish-orange sapphire. And the color is very pretty! It's just not a pad (again, IMO). May I ask the weight and how much you paid?

Sorry for the slow reply...I paid $1300 USD and it's 1.03ct. I do find the color gorgeous, but exactly as you said, not really a pad...very tough to decide..I have another to post here to get your thoughts...

Ok here is another one. Left is the $1300 one and Right side is the new 1.56ct $2000 one. I just need someone to confirm that I'm not crazy - I find the new one way too brownish. Yet it comes from a reputable gemrockauctions seller with a certificate. What I don't get is that his photos and the cert photos are SO much lighter than real life. I can't get that shade even if I try! And seller has shown me other stones he sold with end result in rings and it's the same story - the gem looks light and once sold in a ring it's almost brown. It does have lots of fire I find, but am I wrong to find it too dark for a pad?

Is this seller called IGMGEMTreasures? I'm curious because I was also looking at some of their stones. Some of the prices seem to fall in the too good to be true category for unheated pads, so I was very curious about that lab too.

I know GRS is sometimes generous with their designations, but that new stone is especially outrageous. I suspect the AGL would called it "orangey-brown." Hopefully there's no funny business with that seller, because I can't believe that's the same stone, and that GRS would certify it as a pad. :eek2:

With regard to the first stone, I don't think the price is terribly high for an unheated sapphire of this color. So if you like it and the window doesn't bother you, then by all means... =)2

Agree - it does not look like the same stone - wow.

I happen to personally love this color and collect it in spinel. It's not easy to find. This is just a quick once over from Etsy on some examples that I wouldn't discount out of hand. It's very hard to find one that is one affordable and pretty on short notice.
