Hi Everyone,



I am new to this forum and newly engaged. I really really love the ring my fiance picked out, but I am also a little "crazy" (I''ll admit it). When my family and friends look at my ring they say its nice and pretty-only one person has said that it is "big". So of course, I like hearing that my ring is "big", I kind of think it is a nice size. But I am scared to ask my family and friends if they think it is "big", because I think they will tell me what I want to hear...So I am asking my fellow pricescope members for their opinion. How many carats does my center stone look like it is (my ring finger is a size 4.75)? And does it look small on my finger?

I think it looks just perfect on your hand. I am not a good judge of size, but it looks like around a carat to my eye... but your little finger means it is probably smaller in real life. Like .75ct.

People do not say "big" when commenting about diamonds in my experience. I have a 1.7ct and rarely does anyone ever comment on its size.
 
Whatever size it is, it''s perfect for your hand! It''s beautiful! I think the size is just right on your finger :) I think it looks "big"! LOL!

I think it looks about .75- 1 carat. Can you just ask your fiance? I think it is beautiful!
 
While size is a relative thing.....I think the general consensus iwould be that it looks like a healthy size rock for an engagement ring, and does not look puney. It''s a nice piece of bling. Enjoy it!

In my experience, people don''t generally talk about size when they see engagement rings.
 
I''d say 1.0 carat...and it looks absolutely perfect on your hand. If I saw it in person, I would definitely notice it and think it was a big diamond.
 
I hear ya...I had an engagement ring (didn''t marry that guy) that someone called "dainty". Ouch!

I think it''s about a carat.

Are you disappointed with it? Did you wish for a bigger diamond?

Congrats on your engagement! I think that your ring is very pretty! It takes up a good bit of finger real estate so I would think that your ring is somewhere between .80-1.05 carats. It''s definitely not puny or anything and it sure is beautiful!

Honestly, I''d take people calling my ring "pretty" and "beautiful" over "big" any day. If you think about it, "big" is not even that much of a compliment. I think your ring is just the right size for your hand and it is beautiful. Enjoy it!

I think it looks like .75-1. It is a very pretty ring and take the compliments. Big is not always better. I had a lady who got engaged in the last office I worked in and she had to have the biggest ring she could buy but it was so yellow and full of inclusions that I just nicely told her congrats.

If I had to guess I would say .8 to 1 ct. I think it looks perfect on your hand, and the ring is beautiful.

ETA: I have a solitaire that is just over a ct and a larger finger (size 6) and a few guys at work have called it big. No one else has.
 
I have never used size descriptors to comment on someone''s ring in person - big or small.

I would rather hear things like beautiful, elegant, pretty, and so on than *big*! A ring pop would be *big* too!

Even then, I tend not to comment on peoples rings in real life unless they are specifically showing me their ring.

I honestly think your ring is gorgeous. It is full of life and bright and looks elegant on your hand. I am not good at guessing size but if pressed I would say about 1 carat.

Your finger is the same size as mine, but I wear a 1.4 e-ring that looks much smaller because it''s an asscher cut. Your ring has great finger coverage, and because it''s a round diamond it''ll face up larger than other stones. I''m going to say it''s about a carat? Either way, it''s gorgeous and you''re a lucky woman!

I''m not very good at guessing sizes either, but I would say about a carat (give or take 25 points).

No matter what it looks great on your hand. IMO "big" is usually said when people think something is gaudy and not a good thing. Or they are being catty, so if no one says big, I''d be happy. It''s not something I want people to say when they see my ring either. Beautiful is a word I want, but big would mean to me, I actually got something too large.

I agree. It's a great size.

Also I feel like I might use the term "big" if I didn't like the person's ring at all and absolutely couldn't think of anything else. It is definitely at the bottom of my compliment list. I think it's actually a bit inappropriate to comment on the size of someone's ring unless a close friend of them or asked.
 
You guys are good, it is a carat. Thank you for all of your compliments and helping me understand that "big" is not something people usually say.

I do agree with everyone else about never commenting on someones ring and how its "big!"

I would THINK it is big but I would SAY "Your ring is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. It looks great on your hand"
