Hi
I have done some research but i am not sure exactly what to look for. I am looking at a princess cut diamond and i would like to buy on the net. I don''t have heaps to spend probably around 3000 AUD or 2800 USD. I basically would like a decent princess diamond that is a good size as everyone does. I just want to know what range i should be looking at in terms of colour and the clarity etc to maximise quality diamond and size within my price range and where are the most reliable websites to look at.

Thanks so much for any suggestions

Hello fellow Aussie! You are certainly doing the right thing buying online. Many of us Aussies here have bought from WF or GOG and had them shipped to Australia. Much better quality and much much better prices!

Keep in mind that you will need to pay roughly 10% imports taxes etc on a loose stone, or 15% on a set ring. However, if you chose to have only the stone shipped you won't be able to insure a loose stone until it is set. Meaning that it will be uninsured for the actual setting process, which can in some cases be risky. Rare but not unheard of. It's actually more likely is square cuts such as princess compared to rounds, so I would definately consider having it set overseas.

As for the stone, I would look firstly at Whiteflash - www.whiteflash.com (I have purchased my ering here, fantastic service and great prices, fantastic quality). Cut is king, so you want to aim for an AGS000 princess cut. Search for ACA Princess stones, due to their excellent cut you can drop down in colour and clarity (the more sparlkly the stone is, the more likely an inclusion is hidden to some extent).

I'm acutally at work now so I can't really have a search for actual stones, but I am happy to have a look for you tonght. I am sure others may chime in here to help too. Remember the majority of posters are from the US, and I am pretty sure they are alseep right now.

Have you an ideas of settings? If you give us an idea of how you want it set, colour of metal etc, we can also find some beautiful settings on a budget.

Good luck, will be back later

ETA - does that budget include taxes and settings? Or is that just for the stone itself? What is the max you would like to spend all up? Don't mean to be nosy, but if we have a good idea of budget, we can really maximise it to get the biggest rock possible without scrimping on cut!

Hey thanks so much that is helpfull.
Okay so i am looking for white gold, 3 stone or where there are small channel set stones and the princess cut is in the center.
Taht price of 2800 USD or 3000 AUD is not inclusive of taxes and is just for the stone.
Overall i''m looking to spend 4000.

Any help that you could give me would be so appreciated

Thanks

Alex

This is one of the biggest ones I could find in your budget you would need to check if it is eyeclean and get an ASET for it but it is a nice balance of colour and if it is eyeclean fantastic :). Should be a sparkler :)

0.84 G SI2 AGS Princess

You can always call a couple of vendors and see what see what else they may be able to pull up for your budget :).

Not to sound silly but if i purchase online how can i tell if it is eyeclean and whats ASET

Regarding whether a diamond is eyeclean or not, if you work with a trusted vendor who can physically see the diamond, then they can tell you if the diamond matches your definition of '' eyecleanliness.'' It is best to describe your comfort level concerning this as accurately as you can to the vendor, so you are both on the same page so to speak.

You will find info on ASET here. It is a very valuable tool which can give info on fancy shapes to help evaluate the cut.

Ok, here are a couple from Whiteflash. With regards to the SI clarities, you will need to call them and ask if they are eyeclean. These are super cuts (ACAs) you won't need to bother with AEST or IS images, these are handpicked as the best cuts available. I am not sure how low in colour you should go with a princess (I believe they may show colour more than a RB), so I have limited the search to G and H. If you are happy to drop in colour (depends on your colour sensitivity) you can probably go a bit larger. ETA nope couldn't find any more.

What is your budget for settings? The ones with sidestones can be a bit more pricey?

I am not sure if you can put a princess centre in this? Can't see why not?

Would you consider a simple solitaire for now, so you can put the majority of the $$$ into the stone, and then maybe upgrade later? With a bit more $$$ in the stone, you can probably go a big bigger, and it will be noticeable IMO.
