Hi Everyone, I joined a week ago and found the two diamonds I was very interested in buying. However, on route to buy one of these two diamonds I stopped in the diamond district in NYC, and saw a a GIA 3.01 ct, I Ct, SI 2, that the dealer said everything was above average as far as cut and polish and symetry (guess that means good and better), and there was no fluorescence. He gave me the price $25,600, and told me it was a diamond from Russia.

This diamond looked better than the the stone in Ring #1, with the better color. And, I can not understand why.

Is this possible? What do I do?

Ring #1
Ct = 3.02 ,
Color = H,
Clarity =SI2,
Cut = VG,
Culet = None,
Flourescents = None,
Polish = VG,
Symetry = VG
Depth = 62,
Tble = 57,
9.12 x 9.15,
gdl = medium to slightly thick
crown = 36
pavilion = 40

The Price for this will be $28,000.

Ring #2
t. = 3.19 ,
Color = I,
Clarity =SI2,
Cut = Excellent,
Culet = None,
Flourescents = Strong blue ,
Polish = Excellent,
Symetry = VG,
Depth = 60,
Tble = 56,
9.52 x 9.58,
gdl = think to medium facet
crown = 34
pavilion = 40

The Price for this will be $25,000. This ring looks better than the other

Ring #2
Ct. = 3.02 ,
Color = H,
Clarity =SI2,
Cut = VG,
Culet = None,
Flourescents = None,
Polish = VG,
Symetry = VG
Depth = 62,
Tble = 57,
9.12 x 9.15,
gdl = medium to slightly thick
crown = 36
pavilion = 40

The Price for this will be $28,000.

Are you sure you''re posting the correct pavillion angles?

yes.

Ok. The reason the 3.02 looks better, is because it has a crown angle that is better suited to the pavillion angle. Those are critical in how a diamond performs. It''s called a firey ideal cut. It will have a bit more fire, and less white light return. Some people love them and actually seek them out.

Personally, I like an ideal cut, better balanced stone, that has a nice mix of both.

If you are dead set on one of these, I''d pick the 3.02. If you have not seen an ideal cut diamond, I would try to see some Hearts on Fire, to get a better idea.
