It has a huge inclusion right in the center of the stone that might bother you. I color is also going to be a very noticeable warmth in the EC. I can't speak on the cut because I am not educated enough. Good luck

Is there any way I can tell whether I can see this inclusion with my eyes, or whether it only shows up in the magnified photo? (I mean, do I need to just call up the vendor?)

yeah, you would have to ask the vendor.

I am not loving that emerald...it is not my favorite ratio. honestly since you have a large budget I would work with someone who can find stones for you and make videos/etc.

HI:

I love step cuts! Very different look than the cushion you posted last.

Large stone by carat weight--large stone on finger. That said, how would you wish to set it?

cheers--Sharon

Wow, thank you for the great thread of the very nice EC! I've been looking through some really wonderful EC threads. There are some gorgeous EC's on this site!

I'm still not sure if I'm going for cushion or EC. But I'm pretty sure there are not many other shapes to switch to. :twirl:

I'm either going to do a delicate halo around the EC (a la Gwenyth Paltrow), or I'm going to put small baguettes as side stones.

Here is the cushion that I turned down on Friday. I thought it was not so symmetrical. When I look at it, it's always a little dark on the opposite side. The GIA cert said symmetry is only good. Can you please let me know if I made a mistake?

I think the Emerald Cut is too elongated.

large table, flat crown under 10% are not a good recipe.
That si1 grade setting feather under the table is likely eye visible.

It's unusual but I like it. I'll leave it at that.

Sharon, great link. Thanks.

Fran Fine's EC is one of my very favorite rings ever posted here! I am glad you liked it! I love EC's with baguettes! DiamondFan has about a 9 ct. one with side baguettes from Tiffany which is magnificent, but I didn't have time to search to find it.

Cushions are also very near the top of my list of favorites. I would look at Good Old Gold's August Vintage cushions, but the large ones are warmer colors. Still, they are works of art. And I can go for lower colors in antique style cushions. You can just see how much more beautiful the facet structure is over that cushion you looked at the other day.

The other option if you'd like Leon Mege to make your setting is to have his associate find you an antique style cushion. (I like GOG's better for the most part because they are cut to have better symmetry and light performance.) Here is a large cushion that they provided and set (along with some other amazing pieces!):

Is there a particular vendor who is very good with EC's? (And who has good prices?)

Is the ASET good for EC's?

Thank you so much!!!!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me!!! I think I need to look at more antique cushions to "get" them....based on how much you ladies know and how you love them.

I am confused about something. I asked a Tiffanys salesperson if I needed to go higher in color for an EC as I've heard on this forum, and he said no. He said he has sold 3 and 4 carat I color EC's, and that they look very nice and white??? I'm getting that an SI 1 may be dangerous for an EC....so maybe VS 2??

Sorry - another question- how about this EC then? Any thoughts from you experts?

Not really liking this one either. The center area is off to me. The line in the middle should be longer. I dont like the windmills
and I'm not sure if it was how the picture was taken or what but the steps look blurry. In other shaped stones this could possibly
be light leakage but not sure about step-cuts.

I would work with GOG to help you find a stone. They can bring multiply stones in at once and do a video for you under
different lighting conditions which is very helpful.

HI:

Did you try any emerald cuts on? Although beautiful, they do not have the same "look/sparkle" other faceted stones do.

I think it is easier to work with one vendor to try and find a stone of this size for you--you are making a considerable investment; vendors might make suggetions that would save you legwork.

cheers--Sharon

Thanks, Sharon!!! I tried on a beautiful 5 carat EC at Tiffany's yesterday, and I fell in love instantly.

Thank you! I live in the city, so it is easy for me to pop into the Diamond District, and not so much into Long Island.....Is there a particular vendor in the city you would recommend for EC's? Thanks so much for your help!

Gotcha! It is such an elegant look--I can understand you being drawn to it!

BTW, here is DiamondFan's gorgeous emerald cut ring.

Sharon- thank you soooo much for posting!!!!! That is one gorgeous and classy ring!!!! That is a thing of beauty and one lucky lady!!!!

I have learned so much on PS. I started out wanting to put a halo around a 4-5 carat RB ring. No offense to anyone that likes that look, but I'm personally so glad I didn't do that LOL!!!

Hi Ten,
1) with regards to the cushion you passed on- don't look back- if the stone and ring spoke to you, you'd be wearing it.
It's also possible that you brought up the money back guarantee which may have soured them on you..

2) Color in emerald cuts- there's a widely spread myth that step cuts show more color, as a rule.
I've looked at too many to count- it's really a case by case basis- sometimes an Emerald Cut and look yellow in an I color- sometimes not.

3) ASET- We have one here- but personally, I don;t find it to be useful in selecting fancy shapes.

I look for corners, and how clearly the steps show.
As a vendor myself, I can't comment on any of the stones you posted.

I also really love cushions and emerald cuts in larger size stones. It is good for you to look at a lot of them to really train your eye for the best of the type that you love the most.

I can't recommend Good Old Gold highly enough. It is worth going to Long Island. Make an appointment with Jonathan if you go and he can call in some stones for you ahead of time. But many of us have bought stones from him without going there because he can take pictures and video of stones for you, plus run the tests on light performance, etc. Plus, he has integrity and is trustworthy. He specializes in well cut stones and won't try to push a poorer stone on you just to make a sale. Another plus is that it would be possible to see both large cushions there as well as whatever emerald cuts he could call in.

I have a friend here on PS who has a beautiful EC and it is I color. I am color sensitive to a certain extent and I thought her stone looked like a G or H. So I personally could go to I color in an EC and I hope a cushion!
