I would like your opinions with which metals to use for setting my mahenge spinel.

I sent it to Victor Canera for a hand forged halo. So I need to decide if I want it all platinum or the shank platinum and the halo yellow or rose gold. Maybe only the prongs in yellow gold.

Please help me with your suggestions.

Here are a few photos.

Hmm tough call. I favor contrast so I would be afraid that a rose gold halo would blend in too much. As for yellow gold bs. Platinum or white gold-- which metal color do you wear more. I would want to get plenty of wear pit of that metal color so I would pick the metal i would wear the most.

I like the idea of a YG halo. :)

I vote for all platinum.

When I first saw the stone I thought that it would look nice with some yellow gold. Maybe just the prongs? Not rose gold though. I feel like that would clash.

Oooo lovely stone! I think YG prongs with the rest of the ring in Plat would be lovely!!!

lol, I feel like I'm always asking the "what metal color" question

add in another vote for yellow gold prongs, platinum everything else!!

I vote for all platinum if you're going on just the stone color. If you'd like to wear it with yellow gold jewelry, I think YG prongs would look good. I am not sure about a YG halo.

I think that YG is still cheaper than the platinum, and it does not clash with most stones. If in doubt - choose YG.

I don't think you can make a mistake with this one, Bright Ice, although I'd probably avoid rose gold unless VC had a blend he thought would really enhance your spinel. This is going to be such a beautiful, beautiful ring!

My choice would be all platinum. I think very vivid stones like that should stand alone without a lot of color interruption. For a less saturated baby pink yellow or rose would be my choice

Thanks everyone for your opinions.

I am going all platinum with bright white melee. It's the safest bet and should be beautiful.

It's going to be wonderful!

I vote plat with yellow prongs. If you werent doing a halo then I would vote for all yellow but I hate the way the yellow metal
shows inbetween the melee in a halo. Just breaks up the flow too much. I think yellow gold prongs would be pretty though.

I will see what Victor thinks about the gold prongs.

Since the diamond is already very red, I don't think a yellow gold halo would look good with it. Ditto the rose gold. It would clash too much and look muddled.

My personal preference for that color of diamond is definitely white gold or platinum. I would choose platinum if you can afford it, as it will offer the diamond a sturdier option.

That would be my choice as well. I love the contrast of the warm spinel against the cool white metal. I also tend not to like yellow gold halos for some reason...for some reason, I think white stones need to be in white metal.

I think YG halos make sense when the entire ring is YG, but it seems odd to put white stones in YG, but use a white metal for the rest of the ring.

I think you've made the best choice!! But I may be biased. :lickout:

Hi bright ice,
I saw your beautiful pear shaped mahenge spinel and had to respond. It reminds me so much of the shape of my pear shaped
Tanzanite below. I cvannot wait to see your Victor Canera creation! Post as soon photos as soon as you get it back!
